Music is essential to who we are as human beings,
and it speaks to the very core of our emotions and
our dreams. Through music we can find a voice
for expression we never knew existed, or we can
discover new spiritual heights while experiencing
performances by others. In an era of electronic and
digital music experiences, the very real and very
powerful impact of live instrumental music risks
being lost or diminished. We invite you to re-invigorate
yourself and the art of live music with the Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra. Discover who you are and how
music magnifies the very best part of your life.

String classes offered at the Woodruff Arts Center are taught with a unique hands-on approach originally created by Judith Cox for the LYRA Academy. Instruments taught are violin, viola, cello and bass.
Required materials (for all classes) are Orchestra Expressions text for chosen instrument, music stand, instrument and rosin.

BUILD COMMUNITIES THROUGH MUSICMusic connects communities in a way that brings a new vibrancy and outlook to our city. Music provokes thought, awakens common curiosities, celebrates diversity and mends wounds that can often isolate us. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is committed to connecting communities to the power of live instrumental music. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, ASO Community Programs ensure access for a broader community.

Rejuvenating SpiritsThe Community Ticketing Program provides thousands of complimentary concert tickets to over 50 area nonprofits for use with those they serve who may otherwise have no means of accessing a concert. A musical escape from the day-to-day challenges faced by many who find themselves less fortunate than others can be just the inspiration to keep moving towards a better tomorrow.
Reviving ConnectionsThe Musicians in Communities program brings ASO members out of the concert hall and into our libraries, workplaces, local communities and to our outlying neighbors.
Symphony in Your Neighborhood The ASO’s signature community concert series brings free, casual chamber music performances and up-close access to Orchestra musicians into more than a dozen Atlanta-area neighborhoods. The series also includes special events like the new Midtown Takeover workday pop-up performances.
Georgia ConnectionsThere are many people outside of metro Atlanta for whom world-class live music experiences are just out of reach. A spin-off of the recent New Harmonies project, Georgia Connections will continue to bring performances by ASO musicians to schools and communities within our neighboring cities around the state.
The Education & Community Volunteer Program is an opportunity for those who share a deep passion for music, community and music education to spread their love as volunteers and docents for Education & Community events. Dedicated and passionate volunteers allow the ASO to bring its vast education and community programming to thousands each year.

Since 2012, the Wells Fargo ArtsVibe Teen Program has been creating opportunities for teenagers to explore the arts in Atlanta. A collaborative program from all four divisions of the Woodruff Arts Center—the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, High Museum of Art and Arts for Learning—ArtsVibe builds a culture of the arts among Atlanta’s teen community.
ArtsVibe provides access for teens to engage in music, theatre, visual arts and more. At our Teen Nights and Teen Lounge Kickbacks, teens can explore exhibitions and performances. Through our classes and workshops, teens develop their talents. In programs like Open Mic and the Voices & Vibes Festival, teens share their voices with their community through art.
ArtsVibe is a year-round program at the Woodruff Arts Center, with many different levels of participation for teens. Check out artsvibe.com to learn more about our programming.
