Technology

Instructional technology involves the integration of

teacher and student use and knowledge of tools and

techniques to improve student learning.

The ASSURE model is a six step process that guides

teachers through creating lessons that achieve the goals of

using technology effectively.

Technology (Cont.)

Current technology offers several benefits for teachers The ability to digitally store and access large amounts of information such as

text, audio, visual, games, movies, in computer files or on CDs or DVDs

Its adaptability to meet varying needs of students. Teachers can differentiate

instruction and access to learning tools with a variety of technology tools.

Students are no longer limited to the confines of the classroom

Media (Cont.)

Media format is the physical forms in which messages

are incorporated and displayed. (Ex. White Boards,

PowerPoint Slides, CDs, DVDs, Computer Multimedia)

Instructional materials are the specific items used within

a lesson that influence student learning.

Media (Cont.)

The design and use of instructional material are critical

because it is the interaction of students with those

materials that generates and reinforces actual learning.

Teacher Use of Technology and Media

When teaching is teacher centered, the

use of technology and media are used to

support the presentation of instruction.

Digital tools expand and enhance teacher

capabilities to fulfill the numerous roles

and responsibilities associated with being

an educator; these tools better enable the

“digital teacher”

The digital teachers instruction includes

presentations that are media rich and

interactive.

Personal Response System (PRS) are

handheld digital devices used to collect

and graphically display student answers

to teacher questions .

Mobile assessment tools is the

advancement of mobile computing that

enables teachers to record student

assessment data.

NETS for teachers is the National

Educational Technology Standards for

Teachers

Teacher Use of Technology and Media

(Cont.)

Provides five basic guidelines for

becoming what we call a “Digital

Teacher”

NETS-T describes classroom practices,

lesson development, and professional

expectations.

Students Use of Technology and Media

When instruction is student centered, the

primary user of technology and media are

the students themselves.

Digital students learn in classrooms

where technology is a seamless

component of learning that expands the

educational environment beyond the

classroom walls.

Today’s Literacies

There are 8 key areas of literacy that students need

to improve leaning and achieve successful careers: 1. General Literacy - The ability of a student to

comprehend or decode information and to use,

transform, and create new information

2. Text Literacy - Skills to use text-based resources as a

means to gather, interpret, and communicate

information

3. Computer Literacy - Encompasses the knowledge

and skills teachers need to select and use technology

technology tools to connect students with people and

resources beyond the boundaries of a normal

classroom setting
