Dream Snatchers:Challenges of 9th Graders

• Work Load• Time Management (i.e. to keep up with

homework, tests, and projects)• Socializing at inappropriate times: in the

hallways after the 1st bell rings, and between classes

• Afterschool and Weekend Jobs• Class Tardiness and Attendance• Leaving Facebook, Twitter, My Space,

Neighborhood, and etc… Drama at home.

Page 20: Ashley Ridge High School

Defeating The Snatchers- Overcoming The Challenges means that you must realize

that you must:• Dress out for PE or you won’t pass.• Go to all of your classes on time; teachers take

attendance every period.• Leave Middle school drama at home, it is sooooo

last year!• Take responsibility for doing your work and for your

actions. Your teachers love you, but they don’t buy your excuses.

• Do your credit, unit recovery, and retesting opportunities!

• Follow the rules. If Mrs. Radcliffe or any administrator says it, they mean it.

• Failure is NOT an option!

Page 21: Ashley Ridge High School

• Go to tutoring as soon as you get behind (or before you get behind).

• When applying to college they see your grades from Freshman year.

• Join clubs, play sports, get involved! • Laziness WILL catch up with you and it’s nobody

else’s fault.• Study! Study! Study!!! You’ll thank me later!• Summer School Stinks! Stay out of it!• These years are gonna go by fast so suck it up and

do what you’re supposed to do.

Defeating The Snatchers- Overcoming The Challenges means that you must realize

that you must:

Page 22: Ashley Ridge High School

Uniform Grading Policy• May retake a unit course in 9th grade ONLY. No

matter what grade was earned in middle school, the Freshman grade will replace that and will appear on the transcript whether it is higher or lower

• Retaking courses is strongly recommended if a student does not make a “B” or better in middle school

• Units earned in middle school are computed in the GPA and reflect on the high school transcript (unless the grade is replaced.)
