The heat outputs of the KRN81 versions are not linear to the length.
The specific heat outputs (watts/m ribbed convector length) and the specific standard water flows in the above table result by conver-ting the average length of 2000 mm. The data are intended for approximate dimensioning.
For individual calculations of heat outputs, see "General information"

Connection sets for the Ascotherm ecoIt is recommended that the Ascotherm eco be fitted with preset kv connection sets (see accessories range). On request, the instal-lation can be done at the factory.
The Ascotherm eco units are fitted with preset connection sets depending on the heating or cooling capacity.
Ascotherm eco units can also be fitted with the fine-adjusting valve. The adjustable valve insert permits reproducible settings of low water flow rates. The setting values can be taken from the diagram.

Water quality
Operating conditions for water quality in accordance with VDI 2035 must be maintained just as the industry-standard installati-on rules.
Warranty claims according to our General Terms of Sale, Delivery and Payment shall be invalid in the event of:
• periodic or extended draining of the system• operation with steam• addition of substances (e.g. chemicals, antifreeze) to the
heating water that can have a corrosive effect on copper or sealing materials
• excessive sludge deposition in the trench convector• occasional or constant drag-in of oxygen into the system (e.g.
lines and pipes that are not sealed against diffusion) • leaks in the heating system
Special versions according to drawings
If necessary, the customer receives a dimensional drawing for review and approval; the order will be produced after this is returned. In the event that the order is cancelled, the customer must pay compensation for the services and costs incurred up to that point.
Paint finishes
Stoved enamel powder coating (packaged) in all RAL colours according to customer specifications; colour deviations customary in the industry are possible.
Use only original RAL colour samples for colour matching.
For production reasons, paint finishes are subject to slight colour deviations, caused in part by specific light conditions. There may also be differences when comparing painted surfaces with painted ceramic products. Because of limitations in the printing process, the illustrated colours are not binding.
The floor pans and possibly aluminium grilles are finished in accordance with DIN 55900. They must be transported with care and protected against damage at the construction site.
Noises
Noise emission depends on the design, size and fan speed. The acoustic power levels were measured using DIN 45635-1 as a reference.
According to E DIN EN 16430-1 (Fan-assisted radiators, convectors and trench convectors - Part 1: Technical specifications and requi-rements), the sound pressure level can be defined with a room absorption of 8 dB(A). This corresponds to a distance of 2 m from the tested unit, a room volume of 100 m3 and a reverberation time of 0,5 s.
The acoustic characteristics of the room influence the noise level. Accordingly, the actual values may differ. It is recommended that the Ascotherm eco be designed for operation at a moderate speed.

Acoustic
Sources of noise cause the air to oscillate; it compresses and expands alternately.
These pressure changes dither the existing air pressure and pro-pagated through the air in sinusoidal form. When these pressure fluctuations reach our ear, the air pressure waves are transfor-med into mechanical vibrations by the eardrum.
The process of hearing is begun.
The human ear only senses the airborne sound; the following two factors are decisive:
a: Sound pressure
b: Frequency
1. Sound pressure
The sound pressure is the change in pressure of the air caused by a sound source. These pressure fluctuations are measured in N/m², and are designated with the letter p.
The sound pressure is a measure of the sound level. It depends on the distance between the sound source and the measurement location as well as the properties of the room.
The sound pressure is unsuitable for calculating the expansion of sound on the sound propagation paths. For this it is necessary to determine the acoustic power of the sound source.
2. Acoustic power
The energy converted into sound by a component (sound source) is called acoustic power. This acoustic power is transmitted to the air in the form of pressure fluctuations.
The acoustic power is a value that cannot be measured directly. It is determined by integrating the acoustic pressure over a hemis-pherical or spherical surface about the sound source.
The acoustic power is thus a value that is independent of space and distance.
It will be used for all of the following calculations.
The acoustic power is stated in watt [W].
For practical use, dimensionless figures have been introduced based on the work of A. G. Bell.
3. Sound pressure level
The logarithmic relationship of a sound pressure p to the refe-rence value p0 is designated acoustic pressure level LP; the unit used to specify it is the decibel [dB].
Lp = 10 lg ( p )2
p0
p = Effective value of the sound pressure at a certain spot in the room
p0 = Reference sound pressure, specified internationally at 2 x 10-5 N/m²
4. Acoustic power level
The acoustic power level LW is defined by:
LW = 10 lg ( P ) in dBP0
P = Acoustic power in watts
P0 = Reference power, specify internationally at 1 x 10-12 watts
The sound pressure level is the sound generated at the sound source (the energy transmitted to the air), while the acoustic pressure level is the sound registered at a certain distance from the sound source.
Thus generally the acoustic power level is larger than the acoustic pressure level.
5. Frequency assessment
Humans perceive the same sound pressure level differently at dif-ferent frequencies. A sound pressure level is generally perceived as quieter and less annoying at low frequencies than at higher frequencies.
In order to take this subjective perception into account, the objectively measured sound pressure levels are adapted to the perception of sound levels. This is called assessment of the sound pressure level.
This assessment is done by subtracting a certain amount from the measured sound pressure level for frequencies that humans are less sensitive to, while adding a certain amount in the other frequency ranges.
Of the various assessments, the A-weighting has become virtually the only one used.
This provides information in the form of a single figure that is designated as an A-weighted acoustic pressure level or an A-weighted sound pressure power.
The unit is called db[A].
6. Sound level additions
If several sound sources are present, then the corresponding levels have to be added to form a total sound level.
The same principles apply here for both the sound pressure level and the acoustic power level.
When there is more than one sound source with the same level, the following relationship applies:
Ltot = L1 + 10 x log n [dB]

Calculation: General informationCalculation of the heating requirements of buildings is perfor-med according to the standard DIN EN 12831.
Basic principles heat outputsThe heat outputs of Ascotherm eco trench convectors were measured and established in accordance with E DIN EN 16430 "Fan-assisted radiators, convectors and trench convectors" Part 1: "Technical specifications and requirements" and Part 2 "Test method and rating for thermal output".
Standard heat output ΦS (∆T = 50 K)
The standard heat output ΦS in watts of a radiator indicates the heat flow that is emitted under the following conditions:
- Flow temperature t1 = 75 °C
- Return temperature t2 = 65 °C
- Room temperature tr = 20 °C
- Air pressure p = 1013 hPa
From this follows the average heating water temperature tm in °C.

Calculation
Heat output Φ (deviation from ∆T = 50 K)
For over temperature ∆T deviating from ∆T = 50 K, the heat out-put is calculated as follows:
Φ = ΦS x∆T

or Φ = ΦS x CK∆Tn
where n = exponent and CK = correction factor of the heat output characteristic curve (see technical data of the radiators). The over temperature ∆T should be calculated logarithmically as follows:
∆T =(t1 - tr) - (t2 - tr)
=(t1 - t2)
ln(t1 - tr)
ln(t1 - tr)
(t2 - tr) (t2 - tr)
The over temperature ∆T for normal conditions (75 / 65 / 20 °C) is the following as a logarithmic over temperature :

Ascotherm® eco Further information
Calculation: General informationThe cooling load of buildings is calculated on the basis of VDI 2078.
Basic principles, cooling outputsThe cooling outputs of Ascotherm eco trench convectors were measured and established in accordance with E DIN EN 16430 "Fan-assisted radiators, convectors and trench convectors" Part 1: "Technical specifications and requirements" and Part 3 "Test method and rating for cooling outputs".
Standard cooling output PKN (∆T = 10 K)
The cold air flow generated under the following conditions is designated the total standard cooling output PKN in watts of an Ascotherm eco:
t1 [°C] = Cool water inflow t1 = 16 °C
t2 [°C] = Cool water outflow t2 = 18 °C
tr [°C] = Room temperature tr = 27 °C
Air pressure p = 1013 hPa
Relative humidity ϕ = 50 %
This produces the average cooling water temperature tm in °C.
tm =t1 + t2
=16 + 18
= 17 °C2 2
Calculation
Cooling output PK (when deviating from ∆T = 10 K)
For temperature loss ∆T that deviate from ∆T = 10 K, the cooling output is calculated as follows:
PK = PKN x∆T
n
or PK = PKN x CK∆Tn
where n = exponent and CK = correction factor of the heat out-put characteristic (see technical data). The temperature diffe-rence ∆T should be calculated logarithmically as follows:
∆T =(t1 - tr) - (t2 - tr)
=(t1 - t2)
ln(t1 - tr)
ln(t1 - tr)
(t2 - tr) (t2 - tr)
The under temperature ∆T under standard conditions (16 / 18 / 27 °C) corresponds to the following logarithmic under temperature :
∆Tn =16- 18
= 9,97 K
ln16 - 2718 - 27
Calculation example
KC281 with L = 2000 mm; H = 130 mm; T = 310 mm
Ascotherm eco:
- Total standard cooling output
PKN = 882 watts
- Exponent n = 1,00
- Control voltage 5 V
Operating conditions:
- Flow temperature t1 = 17 °C

Note regarding "Basics of cooling outputs":
The calculations above are for a dimensioning with dry cooling. If system parameters that result in condensation on the cooling register are intentionally selected during planning, the sensible cooling output needs to be considered in addition to the total cooling output. In this case, the sensible cooling output is the determining factor for performance the cooling load.

Example of system dimensioning under normal conditions
Dew point tableFor a correct dry cooling dimensioning without condensation, the flow temperature of the cool water needs to be taken into account. The flow temperature of the cooling water can be taken as the lowest possible surface temperature of fin compon-ents. Assuming normal conditions (room air temperature 27 °C, relative humidity 50%), the
dew point will be 15.8 °C. This means that condensation can be expected if the flow temperature of the cool water drops below 15.8 °C. Beneficial drying effects associated with fan operation are not taken into account, since this effect depends largely on the fan speed.

Planning, assembly and installation instructions
Scope of delivery• External, adjustable and acoustically decoupled height adjust-
ments (pre-installed)• For KRP91, KRN92 and KRN81 aluminium linear grille (on
request, delivery can be postponed until the end of the construction phase)
• For KC281 and KC481 aluminium roll-up grille (on request, delivery can be postponed until the end of the construction phase)
• Plastic elements for acoustic decoupling• Installation cover and edge bar protection (for protection
during the construction phase)
Planning advices• To compensate for cold air that occurs on large window areas,
the trench convectors must be dimensioned to extend along the entire length of the window.
• The thermal behaviour of screeds and floors can compress the floor pans of trench convectors. To prevent this, expansion joints must be provided.
• When electrical cables or a thermostatic sensor head with a remote sensor will be used, it is necessary to install an empty conduit.
• The installation cover supplied serves to protect the convec-tor during the construction phase and should be replaced with the supplied linear grille or roll-up grille only after all construction work has been completed. The installation cover has only limited loading capability and is not suitable for use as a surface to support scaffolds, ladders etc.
• The convector must be accessible for maintenance work at any time.
Installation instructions
Positioning and arrangement
• Remove the packaging film and packaging cardboard from the trench convector before installation. If the top grille has already been delivered, store it in a safe location until construction work has been completed.
• Place the trench convector in position and use the external height adjustments to align it. The height adjustments can be placed in the correct position with the aid of a screwdriver.
• Use the mounting brackets to secure the floor pan to the floor.
• If necessary, use insulation underneath and on the sides of the floor pan as well.
• Note the acoustic decoupling
Connecting of the trench convector
• Water connection to the face (as standard) or room sided with openings already provided for pipe entry (on request, other connection arrangements also possible).
• Attach fittings and connect convector to pipework.• To prevent entry of screed into the floor pan, seal the provi-
ded openings with suitable material. (e. g. plastic plugs from the accessory range)
• Perform a pressure test.• Cover the convector with the supplied installation cover for
protection• When components from other manufacturers are used (e.g.
connection set, actuator,…) that are not in the accessory range for the Ascotherm eco, pay attention to the installation dimensions.
Intended use
The Ascotherm KRN81, KC281 and KC481 are intended exclusi-vely for use in indoor areas (e.g. conservatories, residential and commercial areas, showrooms, etc. The Ascotherm KRN81, KC281 and KC481 cannot be used in swimming pools, damp locations and outdoor areas. In case of doubt, always consult the manufac-turer. Any other or additional use shall be considered as impro-per use.
Safety instructions
• Electrical work may be carried out only by authorised electri-cians. Connection must comply with valid VDE regulations and the EVU directives.
• When installing Ascotherm KRN81, KC281 and KC481, a suita-ble residual current-operated protective device (RCD) / earth leakage circuit breaker (less than or equal to 30 mA) must be installed.
• In case of failure to comply with the regulations and directives malfunctions with consequential damage and endangerment of individuals can occur. Mixing up wires or connecting impro-perly can result in MORTAL DANGER!
• Note additional safety information in the installation instruc-tions.
