As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago at all of our Masses, a Senior Adult Ministry group will be
starting! This ministry is for those ages 55+. The group will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Our first time together will be on Wednesday, November 8 from 12pm – 2pm. Join us for Mass at Noon, followed by lunch and a presentation in Corpus Christi Hall. During the month of November, we celebrate and honor all those who died by observing All Saints Day on November 1st and All Souls Day on November 2nd. Are you named after a Saint? What Saint name did you take for your Confirmation name? Come for a game of Saint Trivia! We will also have a prayer for all those who died that we would like to remember. Your ideas for moving forward will also be appreciated!
Women’s Advent Tea Calling all volunteers who like to plan events, we need your talent! Ascension of Our Lord Parish will be hosting a Women’s Advent Tea, an event of fellowship, faith and fun. We need vol-unteers to join the Planning Committee.
If you are interested in joining the Committee please contact Shingai Chigwedere at [email protected] or call 630-953-4415 by October 9, 2017. Thank you for your time and consideration!
CCW Living Rosary YOU are needed to be a part of our LIVING ROSARY on Sunday, October 22 at 5:45 p.m. prior to the start of our Parish Mission. Our parish family will circle the pews, forming a human rosary as “beads”, each one announcing a country we pray for and leading a Hail Mary. Each decade of this World Mission Rosary is dedicated to a continent, and each bead is dedicated to a country on that continent. For more information see the insert in today’s bulletin or contact Maryann Neffke at 630-932-1995.
Fr. Phil Horrigan, DMin ALL ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!
Sunday 10/22: Spiritual Courage, Opening the Door Our spiritual journey is reshaped and relived each time we celebrate the Sunday liturgy. Our mission is a time to stop at some of the inter-sections along the way. Our first stop is actually at the church doors, - the threshold of decision. Will I step over into the place of communal prayer? And if I do, what will that mean for me? Monday 10/23: A New Life in the Spirit. When we encounter the waters of the font we en-ter into all over again the promises of our baptism. Our baptismal identity changed every-thing for us, we are never the same again. With a simple gesture of blessing we make a great promise to renew our life and be a new person. Only then are we ready for word and sacrament. Tuesday 10/24: Food for the Journey. Every pilgrim needs nourishment and the spiritual pilgrim needs to eat at the table of the Lord. The gift of the Eucharist is an astonishing act of love from God, and it can be a ‘frightening ministry’ for those who accept it. Our journey is not finished yet; we take up our mission once again. We retrace out steps and pass over the threshold again. Are we different people than when we went in? What will the next part of the journey look like? More information at www.ascensionofourlord.net!

WE and Many Others NEED YOUR HELP By now have all heard and perhaps seen the extensive destruction and hardships being experienced by large populations in the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida and Texas. Many organizations like ours have been mobilized to help in any way they can with food, money and other emergency supplies so desperately needed by the many people left with very little following the storms in their home communities. We all need to offer what we can toward that relief effort. Closer to home there are many others who we can assist. These are our many young Veterans who after a succession of deployments to conflicts in far off countries are eventually discharged to return home but find themselves behind their peers in economic advancement and opportunities often with skill sets that do not quite match what is needed in the domestic workplace. In addition, many while away have become estranged from their families and friends leaving further resentment and problems adjusting to life here at home. Still others return from service overseas with serious permanent injuries, PTSD, anger and behavior issues that are compounded by the lack of opportunities available to them. These, too, need our help to support their adjustment to normal living and behaviors. Our Conference intends once again to have a Veteran’s Day luncheon for our Military Veterans and their families on Saturday, November 4, 2017 here at Ascension. For that we very much need your help to make that a day of honor and celebration that reflects what we are all about. Our next parish SVDP Conference Meeting will be held in the parish office on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 4:00 PM at which time we will devote our entire meeting to finalize these plans and the needed resources. AND we will need your help and support for our semi-annual Truck clothing and household goods collection in mid November when the donations you can bring will help all of our poor both here and far away. Any help is appreciated by both us and those for whom it is intended. If your donations are wrapped with a prayer we are further confident that God will direct it to those most in need. Together we can help all who call upon us for assistance. By joining our work as a Member of our Society we can work together for the good of all who come to our attention.
The Homeless Prevention Committee is a group of non-profit and government agencies who
have been working together for years to prevent homelessness. Our Outreach Committee is
hosting a "Utilities Workshop".
