The frequent shootings and murders that terrorized Asbury Park neighborhoods in recent years have calmed as police take a more aggressive effort to pa- trolling. Crime “is amazingly lower,” acting Police Chief An- thony Salerno said in a recent phone interview. “We used to have shootings every other day and a homicide every other month.” There have been at least six shooting incidents in As- bury Park and th ree people shot so far in 2015, accord- ing to the city Polic e Departmen t. The most rece nt shooting happened the morning of July 8 when a 23- year-old Asbury Park man was shot at the Donald Ham- mary Basketball Courts.
