TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME PAGE 3 OCTOBER 7, 2018
“....and the two shall become one flesh.” MK 10:8
The readings this weekend talk about how God created a partner for man and together they become one. As much as I have to say on this, I know nothing. One of the hardest things in my life was the realization of my own marriage that my ex-spouse and I never became one. Of course, I didn’t know this until fourteen years into my marriage. Then I was faced with reconciling and mourning the relationship I thought I had with the future I thought we were working towards. All along God revealing Himself to me, as He was walking beside me on this journey. He answered my prayers in a timely and precise manner…the good, the bad and the ugly. Another lesson I learned; be care what you pray for because you just might get it, of which I was very grateful. Not only did He open my eyes but He blessed me with strength and courage with not only what I was about to see but what I had to do. He released me of all fear and doubt. He positioned me in a way that when the time arrived I had the support around me to land on my feet. Even under the best of circumstances, it was difficult to comprehend. Never in my life did I think I would be in that situation. Divorce was never an option until divorce was the only option.
As intimately as I was hurt by someone I put so much trust in, I knew by being true to my Faith I would have to find a way to offer forgiveness. For several reasons, the first of which seemed to be quite clear. A bible passage kept being presented to me, 2 Corinthians 2:7 “Now it is the time to forgive him and comfort him. Otherwise, he may become so discouraged he won’t be able to recover.” For purely selfish reasons, I didn’t want it on my conscience that he may spiral into some dark hole and never come out. Also, it’s easy to claim to be Catholic and have great Faith if it’s never challenged. It’s extremely difficult to put your faith into action when it goes against every human emotion you are experiencing. With God’s grace, I am able to move forward. It continues to be a work in progress and a daily journey.
So what is my takeaway? I came out with a Faith stronger than I ever could have imagined; and an understanding that marriage needs to be two people coming together with Christ at its center. Having one person with the responsibility of holding up the faith in the family, is too much for only one person to take on. Life can be difficult enough under the best of circumstances—especially with couples raising children. Keeping God at the center, gives you a foundation to which to rest upon and keeps what’s important in focus. By putting my complete trust in the right man, it has given me a peace that I have never experienced.

In today’s Gospel (Mark 10: 2-16), Jesus tells his disciples, “Let the children come to me…for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
The members of OLV’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul want to thank our parishioners for their continued financial support which allows us to bring the love and mercy of Jesus to children who are hungry and cold. In thanks, we share with you the following prayer: Those who walk with simplicity proclaim the steadfast love of our God. In trust, we pray, Lord, give us genuine and transparent hearts.
Make us open and trusting like children, Lord, heal our hardness of heart. Teach us to let go of the baggage that has developed in our lives, Lord, help us to live with confidence
in your forgiveness. Give us the joy and openness of a child, Lord, may we find you in our service to those who are poor.
Amen

Catholic Services Appeal
Pas tors , s ta f f members , and volunteers who work hard on the CSA
in our parishes will gather at Sacred Heart Major Seminary next week to offer their insights and suggestions for conducting our annual appeal to the CSA Steering Committee.
For many years, the CSA has been the means of delivering archdiocesan ministries, programs, and activities that are an integral part of the spirit of the initiatives described in Unleash the Gospel. The goal of the CSA Steering Committee is to improve the marketing and operational components of the CSA, which is why it hosts a gathering and listening issue each autumn.
Those integral to their parish’s CSA efforts must RSVP for the Fall Gathering Session on Thursday, October 11, at http://rsvp.aodcsa.org by October 8. For more information about CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, please go to www.AOD.org.
