First works consisted of dark colors, many of miners and peasants.

Persuaded to use more color, Van Gogh shortly adopted a pointillist style

His most common medium was oil paints

“Starry Night”

Vincent was self-taught in the realm of art. He would take books of artists he admired and copy their style. His style is a mesh of many styles, but he does have distinct line in his work.

My opinion: I personally am not too fond of Van Gogh’s work.

As a child, Boccioni moved a lot, but settled in Padua in 1888

In 1897, he moved with his father to Sicily and received a diploma from the Technical Institute in Cantina the following year.

Boccioni became friends with artists Basilici and Severini, and later became a student of Balla, who taught him symbolism and divisionism-two chief influences in Boccioni’s work.

“States of Mind: The Farewells”

Page 10: Artists

A Futurist painter and sculptor, Boccioni’s early work consisted of city life.

His work was heavily influenced by cubism as well.

My opinion: I enjoy Boccioni’s sculptures, but not his paintings.

Scholder’s art is greatly influenced by his own Indian heritage, and by the Indian artists with whom he studied.

Abstract Expressionism inspired his use of strong images and color.

Pop Art inspired his ideas of clichés and interest in popular culture.

He is a painter, lithographer, and sculptor. “Pueblo Dog”

My opinion: I like Scholder’s work because I can see his heritage in it, and he expresses himself well through his paintings. I also enjoy his use of vibrant colors.
