Faculty of Health and Social Care ART THERAPY FOUNDATION COURSE Venue: Faculty of Health and Social Care, Riverside Campus, Castle Drive, Chester CH1 1SL Monday 26th January 2015 to Friday 30th January 2015 10.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 10.00am to 4.00pm Friday This course is intended for people who may consider art therapy as a career, and want to train as an art therapist. It is also useful for healthcare workers who want to gain a better understanding of art within a care context. This course offers an opportunity for you to gain a deeper understanding of art therapy with different client groups, as all speakers are experienced art therapists presenting clinical work from their own art therapy practice. The course also has an experiential element, as art therapy experiential workshops are also included. No previous formal experience of art making is required, but it is important to be prepared to take part in art making. We have devised a programme that offers a solid overview of art therapy and its diverse clinical settings. Basic theoretical concepts of art therapy will be introduced and illustrated by case studies from clinical work with clients throughout the course. All the tutors are experienced art therapists who have a considerable amount of expertise in their own field. In each session, there will be time for questions to the tutor and group discussion. Candidates will be given a course pack containing articles selected by each tutor for their topic, and you will receive lecture notes from each presentation. Time will be allocated to answer all queries relating to art therapy and possible routes to art therapy education/ qualification. A qualifying Art Therapy course is due to commence at the University of Chester in September 2015.
