As proposed, this
event provided an
excellent stage for the
participating artists, gallery
owners, craftsmen and sponsors who
gained much exposure and made solid connections
throughout the VIP receptions and daytime visits.
Guests and participants were thoroughly satisfi ed
and continue to send praise to the TM-ART team for
organizing and hosting this truly world-class event.
TM-ART Fine Arts International extend their
gratitude to all who were involved and the team now
eagerly devotes itself to launching ART ANTWERP
International Art & Design 2014 (5-12 December)
cultural fair and opening vernissage event.
Over 6 days and 2 VIP receptions, some 900 visitors
crowded in from Meir Street to view carefully selected
artwork by Gabriel Meiring, Thomas Maes and 13
other artists and craftsmen from around the globe.
Among the exhibitors were the generous Alastair
Laidlaw and Christine Marsden who donated one of
their limited edition prints of Dreams of Diamonds,
the worlds largest jewel & photography super-book.
The book was sold, along with artwork by misters
Maes and Meiring and some jewel work by Michielsen
Manufacturing.
Dominick Alexander Rediers and Director Thomas
Maes proudly opened the event and extended
welcoming words to numerous ambassadors, mayors,
ministers and other esteemed guests such as Minister
Geert Bourgeois, Minister Annemie Turtelboom,
Kristel Strubbe and Schepen Andre Gantman. VIP
reception guests were delighted with the haute-
cuisine dinner and service by Horta and many toasts
were made. Live classical piano performances were
composed and played by maestro Gabriel Meiring
and a brilliant last minute addition, Ms. Evelyn Sagita
Kauw. Throughout the entire event, Grani dOro Caf

ANTWERPA City of Art
Antwerp city on the Scheldt, city of Rubens, of
diamonds, of fashion, a port city... The sum of all
these different aspects is what makes Antwerp into
a real city: a vibrant, welcoming metropolis, which is
also great fun and heart-warming, with green areas
where you can relax and peaceful corners. Antwerp is
a veritable cultural capital, which prides itself on its
impressive architecture and splendid art. Moreover,
Antwerp is a fashionistas dream destination thanks
to the stores of its world-renowned designers. The
cafes only serve the best beers and foodies can
enjoy the most delicious traditional and multicultural
cuisine in the citys restaurants. Antwerp: a pocket-
sized metropolis which is sure to conquer anyones
heart in no time at all.
CultureAntwerp had an artistic reputation in the 17th
century,
based on its school of painting, which included
Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, the two Teniers and
many others.
Informally, most Antverpians (in Dutch
Antwerpenaren, people from Antwerp) daily speak
Antverpian (in Dutch Antwerps), a dialect that Dutch-
speakers know as distinctive from other Brabantic
dialects through its typical vowel pronunciations:
approximating the vowel sound in bore for one
of its long a-sounds while other short as are
very sharp like the vowel sound in hat. The Echt
Antwaarps Teater brings the dialect on stage.
FashionAntwerp is a rising fashion city, and has produced
designers such as the Antwerp Six. The city has a
cult status in the fashion world, due to the Royal
Academy of Fine Arts, one of the most important
fashion academies in Europe. It has served as the
learning centre for a large number of Belgian fashion
designers. Since the 1980s, several graduates of the
Belgian Royal Academy of Fine Arts have become
internationally successful fashion designers in
Antwerp. The city has had a huge infl uence on other

Belgian fashion designers such as Raf Simons,
Veronique Branquinho, Olivier Theyskens and Kris
Van Assche.
Local productsAntwerp is famous for its local products. In
August every year the Bollekesfeest takes place.
The Bollekesfeest is a showcase for such local
products as Bolleke, an amber beer from the De
Koninck Brewery. The Mokatine sweets made by
Confi serie Roodthooft, Elixir DAnvers, a locally
made liquor, locally roasted coffee from Koffi e
Verheyen, sugar from Candico, Poolster pickled
herring and Equinox horse meat, are other
examples of local specialities.
One of the most known products of the city are its
biscuits, the Antwerpse Handjes, literally Antwerp
Hands. Usually made from a short pastry with
almonds or milk chocolate, they symbolize the
Antwerp trademark and folklore. The local products
are represented by a non-profi t organization,
Streekproducten Provincie Antwerpen vzw.
MEIR ROYAL PALACEIn late 1745 the Antwerp entrepreneur Johan
Alexander van Susteren build this palace . The
architect, Jan Pieter van Baurscheit creates a
luxurious residence for French, Viennese and
Northern Dutch examples. It is a sumptuous rococo
building with late baroque infl uences, a real gem on
the Meir . Several aristocratic families inhabit the
property before it is annexed in 1812 by Napoleon to
the French crown domain.
After Napoleons defeat the Palace is in the hands
of the new United Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Later, the Belgian sovereigns will receive their
foreign guests . To celebrate the 75th anniversary
of independence from Belgium , the palace was
completely rebuilt in 1905 under Leopold II, it will
include a hall of mirrors .
In 1998 the Palace closes his doors . In 2010, the
Palace reopens after an intensive restoration . Today,
the Palace is of the people, anyone can go there for a
fascinating visit, a lunch in style
or tasty chocolates .

Peter Paul Rubens and Antwerp. The master and his
city. The two go hand in hand, and after more than
400 years, the presence of this world famous painter
can still be felt in many places around the city.
Thousands of visitors come to this city on the Scheldt
just because of him. In the lively city centre, you can
see a number of Rubens most celebrated works, with
some of them still in the original location he intended
when he created them!
Rubens lived almost his entire life in Antwerp and
made an active contribution to an extended cultural
blossoming of the city. Religious problems, along with
the recapture of the Southern Netherlands by Catholic
Spain, led to the closure of the Scheldt in 1585 and the
end of the Dutch Golden Age. Rubens transformed this
ending into a new beginning. Thanks to the role played
by this master of the Flemish Baroque as a painter,
diplomat, graphic artist, designer, collector, teacher
and source of inspiration, Antwerp continues to bask in
the light of Rubens genius to this day.
Nowhere else can one
experience Rubens so
profoundly as in his
hometown, the city
where he is also buried.
In your search for this
genius you will enter
some of Antwerps most
beautiful monuments and
experience the Antwerp
of today - a melting pot of
creative talent.

consummate Baroque
city, a place where you
can walk in the footsteps
of Rubens and his famed

CLOCKS
Jongerius Restauraties

The artist also started a
second line for hospitality
and business, a concept,
blending his own photographs, while
projecting on details of his own paintings. Horses,
historical buildings, birds, cars, sports... They all
inspire him! He exhibited in New York, Dubai, Paris,
Brussels, Bruges, Den Haag, Amsterdam, Bari,
Barcelona, and has also been asked in Berlin, Los
Angeles, Palermo, Milan, Las Vegas, Toronto, Firenze,
Lisbon and Casablanca.
The artist has appeared in several books like

Vincent Messelier was born in Kortrijk, Belgium
on the October 6, 1967. He started painting in
May 2006. He is a completely self-taught artist
who is very passionate about his art. Vincent
paints from his heart and soul with some jazzy
music on the background. Depending on the
moment or his mood, some other music can also
inspire his work. In March 2011, he decided to sell
his cash-collecting offi ce; he had started up in
1992 and chose to live his real passion... Art!
In November 2011, he became a member of Dubai
Art Center where he exhibited his works and also
kept his own art studio. In April that year, he exhibited
in New York City, at the Broadway Gallery. He
developed his own style, called Meridianism.
Vincent uses pallet knives and in his artwork, vertical
and horizontal stripes and lines refer to the worlds
meridians. He uses acrylics, sometimes combined
with wood, foam or other materials.

Rudy van Nieuwen-
hove
Rudy Van Nieuwenhove was born in September of
1962 in Kortrijk, Belgium. He showed fi rst signs
of creative artistry at the age of nine, as a fi rst
year Academy student in Harelbeke. Due to high
expectations in academia, Rudys artistic journey
was delayed. Rudy later on went to college, but
was drawn to back to artistic training.
Through his studies, Rudy rapidly consumed all
knowledge and experienced as much as possible on
the subject of painting, illustration and more, with an
undying thirst. At only nineteen, he held his fi rst solo
exhibition. During that time, Rudy focused mostly on
ink drawings and worked day and night. As a result,
the exhibition was completely sold out and there
was a tall list of orders. In the same year, 1981, Rudy
worked with New Gallery in Kortrijk along with other
artists including the widely celebrated Karel Appel.
Many works were sold there mainly to buyers in the
Middle East. Due to this great success, Rudy was
able to establish his own company in 1983. He held
exhibitions in just about every town around Kortrijk.
Rudys artwork evolved as he worked with oil, acrylic,
and lacquer, always working away here and there, in a
frenzy of wine, caffeine and sugar. Over many years,
Rudy organized his exhibitions with the help of his
wife Dorine Vanhie. In the last 10 years, he has become
increasingly sought out in France, particularly by
champagne houses. They commissioned him regularly
to portray exclusive frescoed paintings of their homes
for bottle labels and hangings.
Thusly, Rudy attracted much attention and was given
the opportunity to push himself to his limits. He was
invited to exhibit his works and talents in America,
The Netherlands, and Taipei. Unlocking possibilities,
Rudy came to want to conquer the world, exploring
not only the globe, but equally his artistic abilities;
he delved into sculpting, surrealism, pop-art, nudes,
dripping and more.

ARTISTS
Particles is a collective of passionate and art driven
photographers. Specialised in creative underwater
photography which translates into fantasy and mythology-based
art.
With this exposition, the public is offered a glimpse into this
silent realm. By placing the subject in a weightless
dimension, the viewer enters a state of suspended reality. Being
underwater takes away ones ability to breathe,
triggering the need to struggle for life, or emphasising the
lack of that struggle. Water is ambiguous, representing
life and death in various cultures. Thus connecting both
audience and subject to their most primordial emotions;
desire to survive and the urge to surrender.
This December we invite you, the audience, to immerse yourself
in this stirring experience.

Damen Restauratie is your warranty for
craftmanship concerning the restauration and
conservation of paintings and sculptures, since
1965.
Conservation concerns about all treatments to avoid
degradation, but to maintain and protect the art object.
Restauration is about all processes to return the art
piece to the initial concept of the artist.
For this we will defi ne the causes of damage in the
best possible way; for ex: water damage, a rip caused
by a trap, a fi ssure by degradation of the canvas,
moldiness, woodworm, loosing of the ground, dirt and
dust, older restaurations, old varnishes, nicotine, ...
The most important actions are: removing old
varnishes and dirt, strengthen the cloth, removing
old restaurations, fi xing pictural layer, treating
woodworm, ... We always respect the rules of
reversibility for all we add. Like this hundreds of art
pieces have passed our hands .

Dario Ballantini
Dario Ballantini performed a prestigious
contribution on the entrance wall of Metropolitan
International School in Miami, a 10 meters painting
that will remain indelible to salute the genetarions
of students of South Florida. Plus, a live
performance at Wynwood Walls, which is becoming
unique in the world thanks to artistic contributions
of graffi ti artists and muralists from every
continent. He painted a 19 meters wall, part of the
headquarters of the top the Real Estate Group in
Wynwood Miami. They are the largest paintings
that hes ever made in 30 years of activity two
long days of creative immersion ended with a
thanks ceremony hosted by Miami Major Toms
Regalado, Italian Consul General Adolfo Barattolo
and MET School Principal Maria Padovan.
Dario Ballantini
With school painting I think I have shown the
importance of the comparision between men that
blend together with their different colors. In the
Wynwood mural, I imagined a gentle giant that
comes out of the perimeters building with the force
of the artists who are resurrecting a slum.
Massimo Licinio 0 Curator
My enthusiasm, my belief in Dario as an artist and
friend took me up to here. Dario composes and
decomposes the faces of his imaginary creatures that
live in a canvas and today on a wall. With a spasmodic
and unreal use of colors, he gives birth to a new world
inside himself Ballantinis World

With Dario Ballantini there is everything that makes
a person special. First inside, the on the outside
with all the classifi cations that society prefers to
use. We are here in the rain, or sun, with a bit of
performance anxiety (that never fails) but theres
a spirit that guides us and keeps us in a special
camaraderie, made of that cultural brotherhood
that I missed to savor in a long time.

Patrick Ramont is a phenomenon, an enthusiastic
artist, a passionate painter who succeeds in a
fi eld where just about everything seems to be
portrayed repeated and haughty copying, yet to
hear their own voice and develop both a personal
visual language of form and content is beholden
to no one.
He uses an equally obvious and remarkable fi guration
that are realistic about coming, and then loaded
by symbolism, with hints of magic is adorned, is
immediately visible and which are still unfolding on
closer inspection in various waves of recognition.
He paints what he sees and what he suspects behind
the visible and feel, which is part of his inner life and
his daydreams that fundamental part of his existence.
Thus sets grow large canvases in which instance he
hurt depicts a surprising abstract visual language
that graceful and evocative at the same time, or a
female nude in an unusual coloration and in a candid
and direct tone of admiration and visual fi eld daring
to approach a concrete and true reality.
Much of what he paints has a strange appearance
that one can not interpret because both the allure
and the meanings of his scenes are barely or not at
all seen immediately and show a surprising depth and
a unique vision of what goes beyond the everyday
presentation.
Not that he would develop inaccessible but in many
of his paintings, and certainly in the works here is
indeed more than just shape and color available.
A visual language he clearly chose here to show that
a signifi cant undercurrent, reveal his entire oeuvre,
all of which have to do with space and spatiality, with
three of the fi ve elements, circles and depth, with
light that carries a number of works many mysteries,
with palpable mystery, and an abundance of boulders
and stones in colors that avoid alienating many artists
because they are so diffi cult to handle.
Purple and teal, however, take this to the creation
of an almost magical atmosphere which further
emphasized by the structure of his works, by the
presence of immediately visible and somewhat
hidden circles, through darkness and light that enter
a fascinating dialogue.
I am a moon child, born at full moon says Patrick
Ramont with artless and innocent belief that evidence
of a peaceful and meaningful self-confi dence.
That statement can be seen as an explanation for
the ubiquity of a shining and often triple circular
motif in paintings of darkness and light, shadows and

ghosts, of reality and symbolism of what is sometimes
described as the music of the spheres.
Nature is an important motif in his creativity. He
integrates her in a personal way and rarely seen
in everything he paints. So much so that they
coincide with his view of things and beings that they
spontaneously appears when he guided himself
through his imagination.
This applies equally to concrete structures as ethereal
images like moon and clouds, heavenly bodies, a
personal view of physicality and also many that refers
to the sea in general and breakwaters and palisade of
Ostend in particular.
He portrays a silent world of a multi-layered universe
in which light is a walking data that is born from a
variety of sources, which dragon eggs break open and
a mischievous creature appears, in which a medieval
devil chuckles, a world in which man is not yet present
and little further another world in which man has
already come and gone his characteristic destruction
has made what is suggested. a broken pier
Patrick Ramont depicts alienation and also a reality
that is part of his experience
and by fantastique, powered
view of the world that surrounds
him and part of his artistic mind. That is, as already
mentioned, nudes with a special appearance but
above clouds and skies, depth and tranquility,
stones tend towards an elliptical shape and with a
strange luminosity are animated and sometimes
have something of menhirs, references to the sea
with clouds a play important role, celestial bodies
that the trinity of water, fi re and earth calls circles
that show how closely he puts colors and creates
transparencies, a sensitive and immeasurable
background that is populated subtle references and
presences.
He creates dialogues and makes connections
between reality and fantasy books, between form and
content, between the pure and authentic painting and
a personal philosophy.
What might be a little strange at fi rst glance turns out
afterwards to be a real and artless pictorial drive the
refl ection.

To me, painting is creating, merging fragments, a kind of
continuous expression of the soul. Inspired by all the
different
forms of life itself and using materials such as earth, fi
bres,
clay, paper, felt, a strength emerges, a two-dimensional
place
for the sculptor in me... Captivated by a passion for
detail.
Fragments of images. Impressions distilled into motionless,
organic images that breath growth, life and death.
The diffi culty to balance different layers of being,
creates
tensions that lead to obstructions, which are in turn
transformed
into hollow impressions, blocked images. Organic archetypes
of
longing... unfi nished time ... and maybe the truth is hidden
within
the longing itself. A search, as life itself. Apparently, this
is what
I must do, unless temporarily sidetracked by circumstances.
Inextricably connected with my being.

Sheillas fi rst aspirations to the arts were at a very
young age when she was at the beach of Flic-en-
Flac on the western coast of the island of Mauritius.
Basking in the magnifi cent scenery of the sunset
stretching down on the terrifyingly large expanse
of ocean and sky she was struck by the wonders of
nature. This was deeply inspirational and that beauty,
complexity and at the same time the simplicity of
nature is something she strives to be able to portray
in her works of art.
Later on in her life, after moving to London and after
having a different career path, her passion for the arts
re-emerged. Her paintings gave her a voice to express
herself in ways she had not explored for years. She
rediscovered this infectious love for the arts and has
not been able to put down the paint brush since.

DieterNusbaums
The desire for diversity in
the motivic as in stylistic
is unmistakable in the work of
Dieter Nusbaums. Fast says you
can feel the much-vaunted artistic creative urge
in the picturesque powerful formulations on the
canvas. We can not rely on someday good images
to be painted, we have the thing itself take in hand!
Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter gave already in the
60s, this slogan in association, with Dieter Nusbaums
we can the confi dent implementation here and check
now: the artist draws on an extensive repertoire of
painterly means that intoxicate the opposite, at best,
in their reunion.
Also on the motivic level opens a wide spectrum. So are
allegories, portraits and scenes of everyday life of equal
importance. However, despite the substantive divergence
all image themes share a common denominator: they
formulate themselves as a quotation. Is fi rst reduced
the use of the quotation, which is admittedly unfair,
on a stylistic trick, one can look to the purely pictorial
realization of the work Dieter Nusbaums focus.
To the appropriation of the methods implies a debate
that is one very stylish making use of the quotation
as carriers of meaning in content Dieter Nusbaum. It
is never about mere copying documents, rather citing
enables positioning in the own pictorial formulation
dissociates itself from the original. The creative
process begins when the familiar is to be regarded
as foreign and are presented as a fraction of our
traditional viewing habits.
Also humorous, but already years ago nearly a hundred,
the writer and critic Karl Kraus defi ned the artistry: In
art, it does not matter that you take eggs and fat, but
one has fi re and pan and is in fact it is the fi re, the
passion of the artist tangible and the skillful application
of picturesque means by which we Dieter Nusbaum
served an enjoyment of art of the highest quality.

After her studies at Nottingham University, she lived and worked
in the Paris area most of her life. She attended

Sabine Lipsky-Spiess lives on Lake Contance. She

innovative designs. Long, thin, hand-woven objects
are fi nely reworked with added elements such as
tiny springs, horsehair, paper or LED lighting. The
object is suspended or stretched to make 3D tapestry
mounted upright on a wooden support or on a clear
Plexiglas bow.
Paper is D,A. Marbachs favourite material. It can be
bent and the space around it becomes an elegant
curve; fold it and it changes direction; it can also
stand alone. Paper is easily cut but still maintains its
amazing properties. It can be enhanced with colour.
Fragile pictures or compact wall objects spring
into life. The artist tries to bring all these qualities
together into her artwork with endlessly varied
shapes and forms.
Irene Messing, born in 1954, lives and works in
Southern Germany near Lake Constance. In her
paintings, she depicts scenes using a series of
superimposed images. She sets out with a fi nished
work in mind and then builds up delicately hand-
painted layers on canvas. Her painting is inspired
by people from various backgrounds and we see
snippets of their past sometimes intertwined with
elements of her own experiences.

large wooden wall panels, he also paints on porcelain
and concert pianos (Blthner), and he designs leaded
windows and interiors for clients. Gabriels own style
of interior design integrates his panels in peaceful
colors with daring and magnifi cent warm colors and
luxurious fabrics. Through meticulously combining
and designing this way,
Gabriel magically turns a
home into a tasteful palace.
Since the 1980s, the demand for private exhibitions
of his work increased tremendously. This, in
combination with many piano recitals, became
overbearing for him. For three years, he retreated
to Capri to perfect his knowledge of anatomy and
technique. Upon his return, a large amount of orders
commenced pouring in. Due to lengthy working hours
and dedication, he has been able to carry out the
numerous orders ever since.
He creates art with an expression of the bizarre, the
supernatural and the unreal. Gabriel Meiring creates
art in many forms and mediums; however he always
seems to capture visual poetry in infi nite development
and progression. The recurring designs he uses are
elegant fi gures and exotic creatures of extraordinary
grace, often shaped with gold, silver leaf and rich
patterns. The subject of his poetry is the emotional
space and spiritual atmosphere of his own inner world.
In order to reach a broader public, and because he has
many clients abroad and in the Middle - and Far East,
Gabriel released, in 2006, a wonderfully illustrated
monograph, in English. The book received a double
Sappi Award for best art book of Europe and the world.

The Lyrical Expressionism of Gerdine Duijsens
They seem to just fl ow from her creative hands, her
on-the-mark and revealing insights into the rich
and empty lives of the party animals and reception-
addicted, the oyster slurpers and champagne
guzzlers, the endless gluttons and unbridled drinkers,
the booze worshippers and party hour regulars,
the bigwigs and bums she has portrayed with all
their stupidity and vanity on more than a thousand
canvasses by now. Yet, its not just bloated hot air
salesman who populate her colorful canvasses. In
their unguarded moments, Gerdine displays her
characters with a slight derision as their vulnerable
and insecure selves, when in their seemingly
unobserved moments they briefl y try to escape from
a World in which status, knowledge, protocols and
power keep them prisoner. Lyrical expressionism in
its purest form. We see ourselves when we gaze at
Gerdine Duijsens paintings. We just cant help it; a
smile wants to appear on our lips as a chuckle works
its way up from our midriff. Its why we want to have
her paintings hanging on our walls. Its because they
say something about us, because they are real!

His works represent a mixture of fi gurative and
abstractionism, having also an attraction for
monumentality of the image.
He is focused on human portrait and his art is
especially an analysis of the human condition.
Because of this preoccupation, he tries trough his
artistic manifestation and research to understand
human being and to observe it from different angles
of its existence and manifestation, looking inside,
outside, around but also up, to the sky.
In this way he has rediscovered Clouds and becoming
an important theme of his works. For him, Clouds
arent landscape, are more than that, they are
spiritual portraits. They are an extension of his
analysis on human condition, by including it in a
larger context, which means Universe. Clouds become
creatures, portraits, dreams, moods, they become us
or we become them, in a fantastic symbiosis.

Lulu Wang
Presentation ForeverInLove (Levenlangverliefd),
a synthesis between art and poetry.
The fact that the Dutch-Chinese writer Lulu Wang
is not afraid of a challenge is again proven by her
new adventure with four artists: Marion Cleyne
from the Netherlands, Vincent Messelier from
Belgium, Steven Partiman from Suriname and
Sophie Xie from China.
Thanks to the digital age the synthesis between art
and literature, encased in a Book App and / or E-book,
is more fl uently than ever. ForeverInLove is a richly
illustrated book of poetry and fi rst appeared as a
Book App and E-book and has been presented at an
art exhibition in Amsterdam in October this year. The
paper book will be released during the Art Antwerp
fair in 2014.
Lectures
On December 5, 2014, during the opening of Art
Antwerp Lulu will briefl y tell about the crossover
between art and literature: inspiration, frustration,
and new opportunities. She will also talk about how
the Western and Chinese culture merge in her new
book and bear fruit.
On December 6, 2014, during a longer lecture she will
elaborate on the topics above.
Her lectures are musically framed by the soprano, semi-
fi nalist of the talent show Holland s got talent 2014 Ji
Xiaolan. She will sing a traditional Chinese song.

paintings with ordinary objects in an unusual context.
They draw viewers attention by giving new meaning
to familiar things.
The use of ordinary objects in unfamiliar spaces
is joined by his desire to create poetic imagery
as well as his consciousness to think about the
Universe. Thomas Maes descri-bed the process of
painting as the art of putting colors side by side
in such a way that their real aspect is effaced, so
that familiar objects - clouds, amphoras, houses,
trees or cubic forms - become united in a single
poetically disciplined image. The poetry of these
images dispense with any symbolic signifi cance, old

Welcome to our magnifi cent book Dreams of
Diamonds and the exclusive limited edition set
of prints from taken from the book entitled The
Illuminant Edition.
As photographic artists and designers for over
20 years we have been involved in all forms of
photography and printing. Over the years we have
become known for our work with jewels, in particular
diamonds, always trying to combine our creative fi ne
art ideas into our commercial work. As a result of this
towards the end of 2007 we began to explore the
idea of producing a wonderful book of highly creative
photography exclusively devoted to diamonds.
Considering all the large format work we had created
throughout our careers, the idea of producing a
fabulous Super Book was a natural progression
along a path we had already been travelling for
many years. The project was completed in summer
2013.
We both feel delighted and privileged to have been
able to bring together such an exceptional and
unique project and extend our heartfelt thanks to
everyone involved.

Roxanne Bauwens is a visual artist who
researches the relation between men and their
surroundings from a humanistic point of view.
Considering both the internal and the external
facets through staged photographic portraits.
Her work evolves around humans: their
appearances, their psyche and their emotions.
Centralising the human subject, she draws links in
all directions. These links are focused on a specifi c
aspect: man against himself, man versus man, man
confronting society.
So far she has done research on various topics:
identity, beauty ideals, (ab)normality, medical
abnormalities, skin, perception, gender bending and
uniqueness in contrast to uniformity.
To extend her research, she make Bilder-atlasses
with images from magazines, texts from books
and works of other artists, thus creating an idea
of the image she wants to make. Her sketchbook
is a second important instrument for her research.
Through photographs, drawings and texts, she
states how she wants the fi nal project to look.
Describing the atmosphere, the feeling, the kind
of model, the type of exposure, each with the
questions what? and why?.
Her series are often a refl ection of societys
conventions. specifi cally this means that, the
images show a certain uniformity, the only thing
that disturbes is that which is not uniform to the
rest. Because of this the non conformistic element,
that which makes us unique , gets accentuated.

keen photographer for 30 years: specializing in
realistic portrayal, commercial, portrait and fashion

His technique is infl uenced by the scent of many
places as- throughout his career he has worked in
Latin America and numerous European countries.
The main ingredients of his unique style are
emotionalism and coherence in the creation of
sentiment and images.
What excites him most in photography is the process
in which, an image, can move the viewer into
whatever the photographer has depicted.

Tanja Koelemij, www.tanjakoelemij.nl, makes
narrative land and cityscapes of her immediate

Sometimes she uses geometric shapes to emphasize
those stories. Because history holds often many
sides and stories, I think its important to give a
kind of openness and looseness so there is room
for the viewers imagination or own story. What Ive
started the viewer fi nishes. Thats what makes it
interesting, I think according to Koelemij. She holds
her strokebrush as a way to communicate honest
