The objective of this project is to apply the selective herbicide Plateau to select areas in the community (47.6 acres of priority #1, as well as 38.5 acres of priority #2). Plateau will be used to reduce the germination of cheatgrass seeds present in the soil. Herbicide Application STORAGE AND HANDLING. The Contractor shall explicitly follow the Manufacturer’s instructions and handle, and store all products or equipment in accordance with manufacturers written directions as stated on the EPA registered label (Attachment B). EQUIPMENT CALIBRATION. Prior to initiation of herbicide application, the Contractor shall conduct a demonstration with clean water to verify that the application equipment has been properly and accurately calibrated for the required application rate. PRODUCTS. Pre-emergent herbicide manufactured by BASF under the trade name ‘Plateau’ will be applied at a rate of eight (8) ounces per acre, mixed with water as per the EPA registered label and Supplemental Labeling that addresses directions for use on invasive species. EXECUTION i) Herbicide application shall only be performed by a State of Nevada Department of Agriculture certified applicator under the supervision of a licensed commercial applicator. ii) Application shall strictly follow ALL recommendations, restrictions, conditions, procedures and precautionary measures as stated on the EPA registered label (Attachment B) and the Supplemental Labeling that address directions for use on invasive species. iii) Applicators and handlers must were protective clothing as stated on the herbicide label. iv) In the cheatgrass control areas, the Plateau application period will be carefully scheduled in the fall/ winter within two to three (2-3) weeks of normal predicted precipitation. . v) The application will be carefully conducted during early morning hours under sustained winds less than one mile per hour. Extreme care will be taken to avoid drift to adjacent property. vi) Mixing and Sprayer Cleanup before and following application will strictly follow the EPA registered label. i) Contractor shall be responsible for prohibiting access to any and all areas being treated with herbicide for the Restricted Entry Interval (REI) period indicated on the herbicide label.
