MISS TUSCOLA PAGEANT 45 YEARS OLD IN 2006

The Tuscola Chamber of Commerce originated and sponsored the Miss Tuscola event. June Foley,

past Chamber secretary, is given much of the credit for its success along with the business and

organization sponsorship from the city. The first pageant was held at the Ervin Park swimming pool.

That first year there was a tie between Jeryl Welborn and Marsha Graham. Marsha was named Miss

Tuscola, and Jeryl, named Miss Tuscola Home Show. The location eventually moved to the Community

Building in conjunction with a style show showcasing local merchants’ clothing and the girls’ talent.

“For a lot of girls, this is an opportunity to gain some self-confidence and to learn some important

social skills – being in front of a group and learning how to present themselves in public.”
