A ROANOKE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOOTH AT THE ROANOKE FALL

FESTIVAL

This PowerPoint gives the steps, I as a library director of a small town library and others went through to provide materials for and to help set up a booth to promote the library at our local festival. The festival was held from September 4th -7th. Hopefully this will be guide to other librarians and others that are planning a promotional booth at a local festival.

PRINT OUT ITEMS TO PASS OUT

THESE DOUBLE-SIDED BOOKMARKS WERE MADE OUT OF REGULAR PAPER AND WERE DESIGNED TO PROMOTE THE FRIENDS OF THE ROANOKE PUBLIC LIBRARY.

THESE ARE TRI-FOLD BROCHURES THAT WE GIVE TO ALL NEW PATRONS OR ANYONE INTERESTED SINCE THEY CONTAIN ALL THE VITAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE LIBRARY.

The se were made up especially for this event but may be kept for other such events to try to increase those that that use the library.

SIGN PROMOTING AN UPCOMING LIBRARY EVENT TO HANG ON BOOTH

Since the Roanoke Fall Festival is a widely attracting event, we might as well promote upcoming events at the library to more people.

BOX UP BOOKS TO TAKE TO THE PARK

The Roanoke Fall Festival is held at the Roanoke Park so the used books that will be sold have to be boxed for transport

to the park.

LOAD VAN TO TRANSPORT THE BOOKS The President to the Roanoke Public Library’s van was

loaded up with the boxes of used books and other needed items for the booth.

THE LIBRARY’S SPOT AT THE FESTIVAL

This is the spot at the Roanoke Fall Festival that the Roanoke Public Library booth has been designated on the

tennis courts.

TAKE BOOK CARTS TO THE PARKSince the van was load with books there was no room for the book carts so a friend and I walked the 2 carts to the

park.

THE BOOK CARTS AT OUR SPOTThe book carts got to the designated spot before the other

items arrived since we walked them there.

THE BOOTH IS GOING UPA canopy tent and a waterproof sign are the bare bones of

the booth.

HERE COME THE BOXES OF USED BOOKS

The President of the Friends’ son unloaded the van full of books onto the tennis court at the park for us.

TABLES CAME NEXTThe President of the Friends’ husband and the Board of

Trustee President set up a table under the canopy.

BOOK CARTS ARE REFILLED The books are then unboxed and put out on the book carts

ready to be sold.

MORE BROCHURES ARE FOLDEDIt was decided that not enough brochures were made up so here more

are readied to be handed out so everyone knows what the library offers.

TABLE IS READIED TO ATTRACT A table cloth was put over the wood table and the printed

up items are set on display to attract everyone’s attention.

FLAGS ADDEDTo attract even more attention, flags were hung diagonally

across the Library’s booth area.

PETITION TO BE SIGNED TO KEEP THE LIBRARY IN ROANOKE

There has been talk of the library leaving Roanoke and merging with Allen County or the Huntington Public

Libraries.

ANOTHER TABLE IS ADDEDBecause there were so many used books to sale another table (with the red tablecloth) was added besides the 2

book carts.

ALL SET AND READY TO GOThe area was finally all set and ready to go with time to spare before the Roanoke Fall Festival was even ready to

officially open.

BOOTH IN ACTION AT THE FESTIVALThis is the final product. As you can see, people indeed were buying used books and learning about the library.
