    A student of Plato.

    Tutor of Alexander the great.

    He died in 322 BCE.

    Aristotles editors gave the name Metaphysics tohis works on the first philosophy, either becausethey went beyond or followed after his physicalinvestigations.

    Aristotle began by sketching the history ofphilosophy.

    For Aristotle, philosophy arose historically after

    basic necessities were secured. It grew out of a feeling of curiosity and wonder, towhich religious myth gave only provisionalsatisfaction.

    Soul is defined by Aristotle as the perfectexpression or realization of a natural body.

    From this definition it follows that there is a closeconnection between psychological states, and

    physiological processes. Body and soul are unified in the same way that waxand an impression stamped on it are unified.

    Ethics, as viewed by Aristotle, is anattempt to find out our chief end orhighest good.

    Aristotle does not regard politics asa separate science from ethics, butas the completion, and almost averification of it.

    The moral ideal in politicaladministration is only a differentaspect of that which also applies toindividual happiness.

    More than twenty-three hundred years after his death,Aristotle remains one of the most influential people whoever lived.

    According to the philosopher Bryan Magee, "it is doubtfulwhether any human being has ever known as much as hedid".
