I love to shop at antique, thrift and consignment shops. I never know what I might find. However, sometimes these shops pop up, and I don’t even know they exist. Imagine my frustration when I meet up with a friend who just purchased a fabulous item at a new consignment shop that I didn’t know about! When did this shop open and where is it? So I decided to search out consignment and thrift shops in the Triad. Hope you enjoy this guide and when you stop by let them know that Ariel sent you! If you find something fabulous at one of these shops, email me a photograph. Next issue I will have a page or two of items that you found on your shopping voyage.
Pegboard OrganizerEveryone is always looking for ways to be more organized, and it can be hard to find a home for some items, no matter how put together your home is. But a simple pegboard like this can help keep rooms clean, and items in plain sight and within reach when needed. Your wall never has to be marred by miscalculated nail holes or markings.
Tools and MaterialsPegboardCircular saw or jigsaw (optional)Satin or semigloss paintPaintbrushFrameHanging hardware: 2 D-ringsElasticPegboard hardware and hook holders
1. Begin with a piece of pegboard. Because pegboard usually comes in large sheets, either get the board cut to fit inside your frame where you buy it, or use a circular saw or a jigsaw to cut the pegboard to size at home.
2. Paint pegboard with satin or semi-gloss paint in a color of your choice. Let dry overnight.
3. Insert the painted pegboard into the frame and secure.
4. Attach the hanging hardware -- the two D-rings -- to the back of the frame to hang pegboard on wall.
5. Thread elastic horizontally through holes in the pegboard, pull tightly, and knot in back to form rows in which to hang and organize papers.
6. Add pegboard hardware and hook hold-ers to the front side of board to hold your supplies. Be sure to snap the pegboard hook holders in completely to keep the hardware from wobbling. Everything on the pegboard is removable and adjustable, which makes changes or updates easy.

glue side down, on bag; press to adhere. Apply glue to the rest of the back of the silhouette in sections, pressing and smoothing out as you work.
4. Cut a length of twill tape slightly longer than needed to form a collar and leash. Apply glue to 1 side of twill tape in sections; position tape on dog, starting with the back of the dog’s neck and curving the tape to mimic a collar. At front of dog’s neck, tuck tape slightly under the fabric. This will make it easier to pivot the tape upward for the leash. Continue gluing and positioning tape for leash. Let dry.

Keep your pet -- or at least his image -- at hand all the time, and show everyone just how cute he is. Adorn a bag with a silhouette of his profile. Ultrasuede fabric doesn’t fray, so it’s simple to work with, and twill tape, used for the collar and leash, is easy to shape.

Ariel’s Shopping TIps
1. Map out a route of the shops you want to visit. This will help you save time and money.
2. Shop often. The more you visit, the more likely you are to find exactly what you are looking for. Many shops have a fast turnover of their most interesting items.
3. Canvass every corner! Don’t just breeze through and glance at items. Recently I was shopping with a Carolina fan and she ran through the shop quickly and went outside to wait. Later on I walked out with a fabulous Carolina collectible. She was really sur-prised. I gave it to her along with my tip number three.
4. Have a little cash handy. Some shops don’t accept credit cards or checks, so make sure you have cash on hand to make that spontane-ous purchase. You know the one I am talking about. You finally find that chicken alarm clock that you just can’t live without.
5. Keep a size chart handy in your bag. Include family members, your best friend, etc. Bring along color swatches and your tape mea-sure.
6. Always check the the items in the glass showcase. This is where you can often find some of the best bargains.
7. When you see something you absolutely adore, grab it! Chances are it won’t be there the next time you visit. In my early shopping days I missed many treasures by hesitating. My greatest loss was an autographed photograph of Great Garbo.
8. Let the shop owner and staff know what type of items you are looking for. Often they will give you a call when something comes in that they think you are interested in. If the shop has a mailing list, sign up for their notices on sales and special event invitations.
