• ‘ Post colonial response to ‘ The Tempest’ and as such deals much more with the story from the point of view of Caliban and Ariel.

• May be Ariel was not willing to be a slave but the hope of freedom and fear of being crushed by power made him to serve Prospero in A Tempest.

Conclusion

• Ariel was the spirit who willingly helped Prospero in The Tempest.

• But in A Tempest it seems his helplessness that forced him to serve Prospero as he had no other option.
