ARF’s popular Wine & Whiskers sells out with 400 guests every year! This fundraiser includes high-end wine tastings and delicious hors d’oeuvres from the area’s best restaurants. Live music and a silent auction complete the evening. Participating wineries and restaurants have included Bennett Lane Winery, Calicraft Brewing Co., Esin Restaurant & Bar, Ferrari-Carano Winery, Flavia Coffee & Tea, Il Fornaio, Mahoney Vineyards, Markham Vineyards, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Pine Ridge Winery, R2 Wine Company, and The Steven Kent Winery.
Since 1991, ARF has kicked off each new year with a sold-out crowd of 785 guests at Stars to the Rescue. It’s a star-filled evening held at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. On stage, the spotlight shines on celebrity performers who donate their time to present an evening of music and laughter while raising money for ARF’s life-saving programs. Notable entertainers who have contributed their talent include Trace Adkins, Chicago, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Sammy Hagar, Wynonna Judd, Darius Rucker, Carlos Santana, The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, and more.

Each year, Tony La Russa and ARF celebrate the start of baseball season in St. Louis. Attendees enjoy specialty wines, craft beer, and appetizers from local restaurants while browsing sports memorabilia and auction items. Onsite are adorable adoptable animals from a local animal shelter. Past participants have included Cathedral Square Brewery, Earthbound Beer, Elicia’s Pizza, Hermannhof Vineyards, Logboat Brewing Company, Mission Taco Joint, Nothing Bundt Cakes, PRP Wine International, Roger Roessler Wines, Six Mile Bridge, St. Louis Kolache, The Barrens Winery, Urban Chestnut Brewing, Walk Away Waffles, Wang Gang Asian, and more.
Each spring more than 4,000 people join ARF for Animals on Broadway, a fun-filled community festival celebrating both people and their animal companions. The day is sponsored by and held at the beautiful Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, California. The day kicks off with a Pet Walk where scores of individuals and teams of walkers raise money for ARF. The community gets involved in supporting ARF with adoptions, pet-related vendors, animal welfare groups, and a pet wellness fair. The festival is complemented by a day of live music, demonstrations, contests, and drawings.

ARF is a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization supported by donors in all 50 states and internationally. Its robust volunteer program is comprised of more than 650 adults and 100 teens.
In 2019, ARF earned the highest possible rating – four stars – from Charity Navigator for the 12th consecutive year. Only one percent of charities reach this milestone, and ARF is proud that 87 cents of every dollar goes directly to its programs. ARF receives no state or federal government funding.

People Rescuing Animals...
Offering a second chance to animals languishing in overcrowded public shelters remains the core of ARF’s programs. Renowned on-site medical and behavioral teams ensure every animal has an opportunity to put their best paw forward in a successful human relationship.
To combat overpopulation and neglected cat and dog populations, ARF offers low-cost spay and neuter programs both at an on-site clinic and through mobile clinics. Compassionate and skilled veterinarians and technicians utilize state-of-the-art equipment to safely surgically sterilize thousands of dogs and cats each year.
Disaster Relief Foster
ARF is proud to be a trusted partner in emergency disaster relief, with expertise in removing animals from dangerous situations, setting up temporary shelters, providing emergency care, and reuniting animals with owners after disasters.
ARF’s foster program not only plays a huge role in helping animals recover from illness or surgeries, but also increases social skills. More than 50 percent of ARF animals spent time in foster care last year, making this an invaluable program in associated adoption success.

ARF’s flagship program transforms rescue dogs into skilled service animals for veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, anxiety, severe depression, and more. Veterans’ pets may also receive free veterinary wellness care and vaccinations through our mobile clinics at regional VA Medical Centers.
Our Pet Hug Pack® program offers love and compassion with the nudge of the nose or extension of a paw. These specially selected animals bring comfort and companionship to those in need including isolated seniors, hospital patients, stressed students, and children struggling with academic or social skills.
Humane Education Pet Safety Net
ARF’s award-winning children’s camps continue breaking attendance records each year as new generations of children learn about respect, care, and love for animals. Combine this with our numerous classroom and scouting programs, and we’re building solid, fact-based education about animals throughout communities.
Our intervention and practical assistance program allows families in crisis to keep animals in their homes, often when they need them most. This includes financial assistance and counseling for pets in struggling households and seniors living on fixed incomes.
