– The Australasian Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians mission statement is to provide an internationally recognised Australian Registry of certified EMTs underpinned by current relevant Australian and international EMT qualifications and guidelines.

– AREMT is to be an independent, non governmental and free standing organisation established to further the recognition, status and continuing education of EMTs in Australia and overseas.

– The AREMT aims to provide registered EMTs the ability to have their skills recognised in Australia and internationally with other overseas countries whose EMT organisations affiliate with AREMT

Introduction• AREMT formed its interest in April 2004 after reviewing the need to have a professional Emergency Medical Service organisation for industry

medical technicians needing recognition of their qualifications and to support them in ongoing professional training development.After reviewing the US NREMT system,we have developed a registration system closely matching NREMT requirements as well as Australasian specific EMS registration needs

• Additionally,as there were few organisations across South East Asia and Asia providing the same service,we expanded our interests to South East Asia,China,Phillipines,Singapore and as far as the United Kingdom.

• In Nov 2004 AREMT became an Incorporated Company with ASIC registration• ACN 111 074 689 Australasian Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.• We have registered Emergency Medical Technicians in each state of Australia and AREMT Assessors for registration

assessments.• Private ambulance services have also affiliated with AREMT to provide EMTs with ambulance training and

experience,which can only be gained with state ambulance services.Foreign ambulance services have also agreed to provide the same services to AREMT registered affiliates and EMTs.

• AREMT has affiliation with;• British Ambulance Association, College of Emergency Medicine (UK),• Diver Medical Training Group (Canada) and International Association of Safety Professionals (USA).• Through association with UK counterparts,we are able to provide EMTs with exchange EMT training/experience in the

UK,Singapore and Philippines,with additional nations across South East Asia taking interest as well.

• AREMT can provide training for First Aid,Occupational First Aid,First Responders and Emergency Medical Technicians,as well as Diploma in Paramedic Science through our training partners.

• AREMT looks forward to expanding professional service to many more EMS personnel,especially across South East Asia,China,Taiwan regions,and would welcome cooperation by all interested medical personnel.

Objectives

• These objectives will be achieved by the following principles:Utilising transparent, valid, uniform process to assess knowledge and skills required to register and hold continuing membership with the AREMT

• Certification is based upon meeting the AREMT entry requirements, completing an application process, passing the written examination, paying the application fee and meeting the re-registration requirements

• Adapting to the changing health care environment by keeping pace with current EMT certification standards in Australia and overseas ensuring AREMT utilises best practice expectations as a minimum standard

• Provide a variety of support, products and services to meet the needs of its customers valuing honesty and objectivity. We will provide excellent customer service and operate in an accessible, open and consensus building manner

• The AREMT will be flexible and innovative to support the EMS system and operate in a fiscally responsible method

Questions on Registration• Why should I register with AREMT? In trying to have a unified system of tracking and

recording nationally trained EMTs,we feel based on the US NREMT system,this will lift the level of recognition of EMTs in the country and gain you recognition with International EMS organisations and other registry agencies.We have recently begun negotiations with offshore EMS services and other paramedicine services,to be able to also use AREMT as an international registry base for particularly Australia,South Pacific,South East Asia,Asia and also UK applicants.

•What are the minimum requirements for registration? All applicants will be assessed on their suitability for registration based upon completion of their emergency medical technician training according to their respective regions and nation according to reciprocation guidelines.AREMT guidelines will be provided for all levels of EMT registration

•How do I apply for registration? Contact us by email or to our local Exam Coordinators who will supply registry application form which needs to be completed and returned to the AREMT.Once received you will need to complete an AREMT EMT level assessment test,which will be arranged at a convenient location for you,or you will be contacted by your local Exam Coordinator to sit for the assessment.Practical elements may be completed with your initial training course of which evidence will need to be supported with the assessment.

----------------------AREMT has developed organisational and managerial policies,which ensure that high professional standards are maintained in the marketing and delivery of continuing education,in association with our training providers,which safeguard the professional development and welfare of participants.To ensure appropriate training AREMT works to:*develop,extend and improve learning opportunities for people working in EMR situations in all regions,localities and for the needs of South East Asian EMTs.*maintain approved quality management practices*implement plans for R@D to identify continuing education needs*identify continuing education training areas

• AREMT endeavours to market continuing education training and training resources with integrity,accuracy and professionalism,in accordance with AREMT continuing education requirements for registration.

• Accurate information will be provided to registration applicants prior to application which clearly establishes;*fees and registration*admission criteria and procedures for appropriate EMT levels*refund policy*certification to be issued on successful completion of CEU training*arrangements for recognition of RPL*appeals and grievances*participant support services*proposed outcomes to be achieved by EMTs for continuing education levels

Ambulatory Affiliations• AREMT has the ability to offer EMTs not

normally placed in ambulatory roles,to gain first hand ambulance skills with our associated ambulance services in Australia,Singapore and the United Kingdom.

• As a part of our affiliations,EMTs will need to be registered with AREMT to be able to gain hands on ambulance skills with our providers.

• Our overseas ambulance associates have recognised the need to extend EMTs not normally in a Paramedic role,the opportunity to gain clinical and practical skills ,by working with other EMTs in a professional EMS role.

• Outside of normal state ambulance services,this is a beneficial element of EMS training for EMTs registered with AREMT
