In Aztec civilization, Chac Mool sculptures were usually placed on top of pyramids. Chac Mool was an intermediary in between gods and followers. The sculptures were used as tables for offerings or as an object for sacrifices. In between Mexicas, these figures were related to the god Tlaloc. In this sculpture in particular Chac Mool is decorated in a luxurious way, and is wearing the Tlaloc’s mask, the god of rain and thunder. In the inferior part of the sculpture there is a relief that represents the God Tlaloc, who is depicted with a body position of Tlaltecuhtli, the god of earth. This figure is immerse in an acuatic world, sorrounded by snails, fishes, and swirls of water. Are you ready to become a Chac Mool?
