We are grateful for the 53 volunteers who came along to do it. It was a huge success – we collected about 40 full bags of rubbish from the memorial field, the plantation and Elm Park. Thanks also to the members of staff, and to community member Mr Lavalette, and to Jean Frew and Ian Cassidy from the Ayrshire Litter Volunteer Network who came along to help. We collected huge amounts of rubbish and a traffic cone.” By Matthew McGowan and Freya Barclay.

world or off world!
Science
Mrs Tatar's S1 classes are now preparing for the upcoming unit assessment with lots of
revision. They are making their own revision materials such as flashcards, summary sheets,
and visual prompts, and are learning how to apply a variety of study techniques such as
traffic lighting, anchoring, and mind maps. Get studying and get the grade!
Urban Gymnastics Club
Ardrossan Academy gymnasts visited Urban Gymnastics Club to practice their routine for
Scottish Schools Gymfest. They were also taught by Craig Cains an experienced gymnastics
coach, who taught them various skills on floor and apparatus, such as round offs,
somersaults, back flips and handsprings. All pupils developed at least one skill or learned a
new skill.
Duke of Edinburgh
Our pupils taking part in last week’s Bronze practice got some glorious weather for a
change.
Primary 7 Induction Days
We welcome our prospective S1 pupils to school this week on Thursday and Friday. They will
get a taste of life at Ardrossan Academy by following a full and varied timetable. The theme
of the 2 day visit is Food for Life/ Sustainability. We hope they have a great time and all staff
are looking forward to welcoming them to our school. We will have some photos to share in
next week’s class chat.
Skills Academy
Our Skills Academy had a busy week last week. They participated in Barista Training at
Ayrshire College over the course of 3 days and this followed on from Customer Services
training last Monday which was also provided by Ayrshire College. On Friday 12th May the
students visited the Waterside (Seamill) for a site visit to explore the hospitality and catering
industry and came back to school in the afternoon to do some practical cooking in the Home
Economics department. Thanks to the Waterside Inn for catering (excuse the pun) for us at
the last minute following a cancellation of a previous visit. The pupils will this week
participate in training provided by the RAF and will go on a hillwalk on 18th May.
