Philosophy

I understand architecture as the materialization of the work

of man in nature as well the responsability to dignify the

space that we all share. I find my greatest inspiration and

motivation in life itself. In my work I involve my knowledge,

thoughts and feelings with the intention of creating dialogue

and proposals searching to move beyond the conventional.

I consider myself passionate by nature, and I try to

make living architecture, looking to create feelings

and sensations of intimacy for whoever uses the spac-

es. I believe that context is fundamental to the fu-

ture of a space along with the history it represents.

A 30 year old cabin to be renovated and made into

a museum that will become the park symbol. A mod-

The project is located in the natural reserve Parque Nacional Con-

stitucion 1857, 250 km south of the USA-Mexican border. With large

areas of pine forest and impressively beautiful landscapes, the re-

serve attracts both international and national turists as well as local

visitors using the park for recreational and educational purposes.

The main materiales used n the cabain are plywood sheets, wood beams and local rocks. All these materiales are in harmony with the natural context and landscape. The main rock structure remains in good condi-tion, but both interior and exterior finishes are damaged by time and climate. This cabain was originally built as a forestkeepers main cabain , but it was never finished and never inhabited for the last 30 years.

FLOOR PLANProposal

The main idea of the project is

based on conserving the orig-

inal atributes of the existing

building. These include latin

cross floor plan (marked in red),

the fire place and the original

materials of the old cabin. The

primary purpose of the project

is to design an area for exhibi-

tions, where the local historical,

natural and cultural contexts will

be introduced to the public.The

changes include enlarging the

north and south facades of the

building and creating a space for

an entrance hall, rooms for expo-

The project began as when we realize of the huge potential of a unused area inside the hotel, close to the marina facilities and with and incredible view. Always working with the main idea that pro-posal should be attractive, innovative and that enhace the area and not to impose over the natural landscape and the hotel design concept. Something particular of this project is that we start des-inging the project without having meeting our client and its needs.

The project consists of an

open air restaurant, allow-

ing guests contact with fresh

air and the ocean breeze.

The main concept of the place

is to offer to the visitors a nau-

tic atmoshphere, mixed with

mediterranian materiales suchs

as rocks, coulored concrete and

wood and sails for sun shad-

ing.The architectural design

was made together with culi-

nary concepts, the design influ-

enced the food and vice versa.

The floor design was inspired by the

concept of a boat deck, pouring in-

dividual concrete blocks with differ-

ent proportions and cement types to

get irrregular tones and looks, creat-

ing a multi tone surfaced floor.

The shading sails where designed and located according to the movement of

the sun in order to create shade in the table areas. They were also attached to the

palms to avoid ineccesary strucutural elemnts and to not contaminate the view.

After the outdoor bar was finished and due to its im-

mediate succes, we where asked to design a gour-

met restaurant complementig the bar. Along with the

bar this will be come an integral culinay complex.

The main idea originates in the Pa-

cific Ocean and the rocky beaches of

Ensenada. The design itself took us

into the colors, refinements and tex-

tures found in the shore. It is inside

of this fellings that we can have indi-

rect sensations inside the restaurant.

In the following images we can se

how these concepts are reflected in

the interior design, where each ele-

ment represents textures and colors

as seen in the natural enviorment.

Page 33: Architectural Portfolio Emmanuel Banda

31Emanuel Banda

The ceiling was designed as

a gradient of colors and tex-

tures, ranging from rusty and

dark from the floor and ending

white and smooth on the ceil-

ing, opening a large dome in

the center of the area for natu-

ral light and sky contemplation.

The blue rusty plaster on the

back represents the blue of the

sea and gives a visual auction

and a vivid background to the

place, contrasted by the wood

covered walls giving a feeling

of being inside of a boat cabin.

Both the furniture and the

floor represent the rocks, that

is why we chose a grey-dark

rough floor along with gray fab-

rics for the chair and bench.

Design a house ; the biggest challenge of any ar-

chitect. This will be the house of a young couple in

search of a modern, clean style, where simple vol-

umes will make up an original proposal responding

to the client needs of functionality and style. The

house is being built upon a 320m2 terrain of where

great importance is given to the privacy of the cli-

ents from the rest of the neighborhood

FLOOR PLANFirst floor

The design proposal consists in a two story house where the main idea of the distribution is to maintain

the privacy of public, semipublic and private areas. The kitchen and TV room are, on request of the cli-

ents the most important rooms of the house and the heart of the household situated on the first floor.

Page 43: Architectural Portfolio Emmanuel Banda

FLOOR PLANSecond floor

In the search of integratating the interior spaces with the exterior, we placed large south oriented

windows allowing natural light to come inside the house, as well as providing natural west ventilation.

High ceilings where also used in order to soften the impact of a shifting cold/warm climate. The second

floor contains a master bedroom designed with the idea of simplicity in terms of space and form. A

multifunctional study which can easily be converted into a guestroom.

Located in the heart of Gudalaupe Valley in

Ensenada Mexico, this 150m2 mediterrane-

an cotagge will be used as a place to relax, en-

joy and to be in touch with nature. A space that

gives privacy and at the same time, the sen-

sation of being outside while your are indoors.

There are many natural attributes in the area, such as good climate con-ditions, a good ground for growing, great views in all directions, etc.In summer time the climate is relatively warm, creating the need to use elements such as orientation of the house and passive shading in order to control the temperature inside the cottage.

Page 52: Architectural Portfolio Emmanuel Banda

NFLOOR PLAN

The orientation of the cottage is defined based on two important factors, the strong cold air that flows from the south and the presence of best views on the north side. This orientation also gives the best privacy. On the South facade we blocked the sun with wood shades allowing natural light to enter and at the same time buffer the thermal sensation indoors.

PART OF REMODELATION MADE WITH RECYCLED MATERIALES

I consider myself a creative, innovative and ana-

lytical person and my biggest passion is achitec-

ture as well as design itself. Some of my greatest

assets are the use of the design thinking con-

cept in my work and the ability to understand

both the big picture and the small details of a

situation. Sensitivity and interest for social issues

in my community and worldwide are important

aspects of both my career and personal life.
