But what exactly is faith camp? Here's my best answer. In The United Methodist Church, we celebrate an event that we call "confirmation." Confirmation is that special time in the life of the church in which we offer our youngest members the opportunity to make some very important decisions: To believe in Jesus, to follow Jesus and to become a part of his Church. It is also a time to decide about becoming a part of Archdale United Methodist Church. For many of you, you have memories of attending confirmation clas- ses. Your memories may be of classes that were held each Sunday afternoon or evening with each session lasting one hour. The whole set of classes might take place over thirteen consecutive Sundays. Faith Camp seeks to present the same topics and information of a tradition confirmation class but in a day camp format. However, over a four day camp, we devote a lot more than thirteen hours to this endeavor. Also, at Faith Camp, every topic we ad- dress builds on each previous topic discussed. As we reach the end of camp, we bring together everything we have learned as we make commitments to follow Jesus and serve in his Church. This year, we have eleven of our young people enrolled in Faith Camp. As we prepare for camp, I would like to ask every one of you to pray for Faith Camp. Please pray for each camper. Pray that God would bless them as they learn about Jesus Christ and experience his love. I would also like to ask you to consider volunteering at Faith Camp. We need adults to assist at either a morning or afternoon session. We also need adults to provide lunch for the group on each day of Faith Camp. If you can serve in either of these ways, please let me know. Faith Camp Celebration will be August 17. I know you will be blessed as you witness firsthand the faith and commitment of our young people. Stuart

Faith Camp 2014

Faith Camp is just ten days away. Faith Camp begins on Monday, Au-

gust 11, and continues through Thursday, August 14. In my years of ministry,

Faith Camp has proven to be a very important and fulfilling time of year. But

what exactly is faith camp? Here's my best answer. In The United Methodist

Church, we celebrate an event that we call "confirmation." Confirmation is

that special time in the life of the church in which we offer our youngest

members the opportunity to make some very important decisions: To believe

in Jesus, to follow Jesus and to become a part of his Church. It is also a time

to decide about becoming a part of Archdale United Methodist Church.

For many of you, you have memories of attending confirmation clas-

ses. Your memories may be of classes that were held each Sunday afternoon

or evening with each session lasting one hour. The whole set of classes

might take place over thirteen consecutive Sundays. Faith Camp seeks to

present the same topics and information of a tradition confirmation class but

in a day camp format. However, over a four day camp, we devote a lot more

than thirteen hours to this endeavor. Also, at Faith Camp, every topic we ad-

dress builds on each previous topic discussed. As we reach the end of camp,

we bring together everything we have learned as we make commitments to

follow Jesus and serve in his Church.

This year, we have eleven of our young people enrolled in Faith Camp.

As we prepare for camp, I would like to ask every one of you to pray for

Faith Camp. Please pray for each camper. Pray that God would bless them

as they learn about Jesus Christ and experience his love.

I would also like to ask you to consider volunteering at Faith Camp.

We need adults to assist at either a morning or afternoon session. We also

need adults to provide lunch for the group on each day of Faith Camp. If you

can serve in either of these ways, please let me know.

Faith Camp Celebration will be August 17. I know you will be blessed

as you witness firsthand the faith and commitment of our young people.

Archdale Parents, Friends, and Family, Summer vacation is usually a challenging time for many youth groups. Teenagers typically fill the months of June, July, and Au-gust with sleeping late, summer sports, summer jobs, and of course family vacations. Yet, even through all of these challenges, our youth group has stepped up to the plate in a big way. First, VBS couldn’t have been possible without the large number of teens that volunteered each night to make sure the kids had a great God-filled time. Secondly, the Youth Mission Team was able to complete our first local project in High Point. The Brock family

contacted us needing a team of people to build a fence so that their daughters could safely enjoy playing and exploring in their backyard. One of their daughters is autistic and the family was in desperate need of the fence so that she wasn’t able to get to the road. So, on Sunday July 20th, we took a team of 23 students and adult volunteers and started building the Brocks a 5 ft. chain link fence. Under the direc-tion and supervision of Gary and Matthew Hunt, we were able to build a beautiful chain link fence in less than 10 hours. Great job team! August should be full for the youth as well. Here is a list of just a few of the com-ing events:

August 25: Back to School

Wow, the month of July sure does go by fast

here in Archdale. July was certainly a busy

month, but it was full of opportunities to experi-

ence the Body of Christ working throughout our

church and community. Much of the beginning

of the month was spent preparing for Vacation

Bible School. With this year’s theme being

Workshop of Wonders, the kids were able to ex-

perience God through crafts, storytelling,

games, and science. Dr. Wow (aka Kevin Peele)

gave the children a firsthand look at some of the

amazing things that can be done with God’s cre-

ations. One of my favorite things about the VBS

here at Archdale, is that we got to send each of

the 63 kids home with a t-shirt to remember

their experience by. You might not think that a t-

shirt would be that big of a deal, but God often

times will use those simple things to tell others

where His Kingdom is being built.

Looking into August, the Cub Scouts have invit-

ed our children’s ministry to team with them on

Saturday August 9th at 1PM for a WATER GUN

BATTLE in the Pumpkin Patch. Children from ris-

ing 1st graders to rising 5th graders are welcome to

attend.

In 2 Samuel is a story about one of King

David's sons who rebelled against his fa-

ther. There was a battle in the forest of

Ephraim between men who were faithful to

David and those who followed the rebel-

lious son. David's soldiers won the fight,

and David's son fled riding a mule. The

mule ran under an oak tree and David's son caught his

head in the thick branches. He was left hanging

there, trapped but alive. His father's soldiers came

upon him and ended his life.

King David was heart-stricken when he learned about

his son's death. He cried out, "O my son _______,

my son, my son _______! Would I had died instead of

you, O _______, my son, my son!"

(2 Samuel 18:33, NRSV).

What was the son's name?
