Arc-Resistant Medium Voltage Switchgear / MCC Transition Section Easy-to-Connect Medium Voltage Solution Extends Compliant Protection Extending arc-resistant protection across your medium voltage motor control systems just got easier – thanks to the collective efforts of Rockwell Automation and ABB. A new arc-resistant switchgear/ MCC transition section allows medium voltage Allen-Bradley® CENTERLINE® 1500 ArcShield™ motor control centers (MCCs) to seamlessly connect to the ABB SafeGear® family of switchgear. Designed exclusively for use with medium voltage ArcShield and SafeGear products, the transition section eases installation and helps protect personnel and equipment by maintaining a consistent arc-resistant design across your switchgear/motor control system. Until now, a common way to maintain IEEE-compliant arc-resistance was to cable the feeder breaker in the switchgear to the power bus of the ArcShield MCC. The arc-resistant transition section, manufactured by ABB, replaces complex cabling and allows the main bus of the switchgear to be directly bolted to the power bus of the MCC. Both the ArcShield MCC and SafeGear switchgear include top-mounted plenums as part of their arc-resistant offerings. The plenums redirect energy out of the top of the unit and away from personnel in the event of an arc fault. To complement this design, the transition section also includes a top-mounted plenum connection as standard. The integrated solution is compliant to the IEEE C37.20.7 standard and provides Type 2B protection. Features and Benefits • UL-certified transition section is compatible with all CENTERLINE 1500 ArcShield MCCs. • Enables seamless connectivity – and arc-resistance – across an integrated Allen-Bradley motor control and ABB switchgear system. (IEEE C37.20.7, Type 2B compliant) • Reduces overall installation costs while maintaining a consistent arc-resistant design system wide. • Top-mounted ventilation assembly systems redirect energy away from personnel in the event of an arc fault. • Suitable for left or right and back-to-back MCC extensions. • Various switchgear configurations supported such as main, main-tie-main and feeder applications. Rockwell Automation and ABB collaborate to provide a more cost-effective and efficient system.
