He also introduced Kim Brown, who will be serving as the official note-taker for the group. Introductions: Lisa Poma asked everyone to introduce themselves, state what area they represent and to share something "green" they are currently doing in their area. Overview of AQIP Process: Dale Weighill explained that he was sitting in for Steve Robinson while Steve is serving as the Interim Dean of Health Sciences. He stated that the project was a result of a survey done in February, 2012. He provided the following handouts: the 7-step AQIP Quality Framework, the Action Project (timeline and project goals) and the membership list. Dale's role will be to act as support for the Co-Chairs, be present at meetings as needed, and to meet with the Co-Chairs between team meetings. Purpose & Goals of Project: Larry Juchartz explained that GRiT started as a grass roots organization on campus. The purpose of this team is to study, brainstorm and recommend institutional-wide recycling/green initiatives that would enhance or elevate the work of GRiT. Lisa Poma added that there is already a lot that we are doing that people just don't know about, and that this team might also recommend ways to better communicate what those are so others can join in. Current green/recycling initiatives on campus: Becky Gale-Gonzalez talked about many of the initiatives that are part of GRiT. They have participated in recycling challenges and Earth Day. They created the "Greeny Award" which is presented to various individuals and/or teams to raise awareness of recycling here at MCC. She talked about the possibilities of leveraging resources with other institutions. Training and education is a large part of raising awareness and getting others on board. Matt's website has a link to Green Initiatives that highlights things that Physical Plant is doing, the Environmental Club, the Campus Ecology Club and other green- related activities. The website also helps to raise awareness with students and the community. There are many tools available to realize energy efficiencies.
