Six projects and papers qualified for the State Science Fair in May. Four projects received Broadcom MASTERS Competition Nominations. These nominees will be screened via an application process answering questions about their project and their understanding of science and engineering in everyday life. The Broadcom MASTERS projects will be judged during the summer and narrowed to 30 finalists. The finalists will compete at the national finals in California where they will showcase their projects and visit sites that celebrate innovation. Two Pritchett Teachers Partner to Expand Learning Opportunities For a half hour each week, fourth graders in Mrs. Murdach's class work with a first grade buddy from Mrs. Amatangelo's class. These two teachers wanted a multi age learning experience focusing on expanded academic and social emotional learning opportunities. This past fall, Mrs. Amatangelo and Mrs. Murdach built a common core unit around a themedogs, which included math, science, reading and writing activities. "Students read Presidential Pooches, Canine Companions, or Hollywood Hounds to their buddies recently," noted Mrs. Murdach. "The first and fourth graders used a drawing and editing app on the iPad to depict the purpose of the story and recorded the meaning of each new vocabulary word." In February, fourth graders taught the first graders how to solve math word problems using models and equations. Follow these classes on Twitter @murdach4th102 and @samatangelo102 .
