Water Trails Project OverviewObjective: Create a collaborative regional plan for water trails and adjoining greenways in the metro area

Purpose: Establish a vision for future development of water trails, public greenspaces and urban waterfront areas and a long-term plan for management of public areas in central Iowa.

Guiding Principles: Improved recreation, enhance conservation, and improved quality of life for residents

Funding: Iowa DNR contract to MPO ($150,000)

• The launch of a regional water trails plan aimed at developing a roadmap for enhancing citizen experiences in and along the urban waterways.

• The launch of Phase 1 implementation of the Water Works Park Master Plan. • Speakers at 1:00 – Chuck Gipp, Director of DNR, Matt Harris, Iowa Arts

• Committee recommendation: Do not pursue BikeLife Cities at this time, but rather provide a resource for the region that would include a list of available opportunities for exposure
