April, 2003 2003 NHRA national event entry/grading information Due to the growing numbers of contestants, constraints on pit space, and scheduling time, a certain criteria must be met before a contestant may enter an NHRA national event. The NHRA grading system determines who gains entry to the national events and subsequently rewards national event aspirants who support divisional activity. A driver receives one (1) grading point for attending a divisional NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event or National Open event – PowerAde Series national events do not count towards grade points. Kansas City Int’l Raceway gets a facelift The NHRA Division 5 member track is undergoing a number of upgrades, including additions of concrete walls, starting- line concrete from the burnout box to the 330-foot mark, and fresh asphalt for the remaining quarter-mile track surface and shutdown area and for the return and turnoff roads. NHRA Adjusts policy for single class contestants The NHRA Competition Committee has announced a change to NHRA’s policy regarding single entrants in class eliminations at NHRA national events. Super Stock and Stock racers who are not challenged during class eliminations by a like-classed racer must run a minimum of .5-second under the class index during class eliminations or qualifying at the event to be eligible for a class win and associated awards. This change will go into effect at the NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals in Las Vegas April 3-6.
