THOUGHTS ON THE LITURGY

In our urban society, we can miss some of the power

of Jesus’ illustrations but at least we all can under-

stand today’s Gospel imagery. We know that branch-

es broken from a tree during a windstorm, wither and

die. Likewise to get spiritual energy, we must remain

attached to God. In the first reading, Paul gets intro-

duced to the Christian community in Jerusalem. Paul

and Saul are the same name, Saul being Hebrew and

Paul is the Greek form of the name. The Hellenists

are Greeks, and the town of Tarsus (now in the coun-

try of Turkey) was mainly inhabited by those of Greek

culture.

ANNOINTING AND EUCARISTIC HOLY

First Friday, May 4th Mass 9:00 Come to a quiet place to pray. Prolong and intensify your reception with God by spend-ing a half hour with Him every Wednesday following 9:00 Mass.

We want to thank you for the prayers and many expressions of kindness and caring following the house fire that destroyed so many things in our life, especially the loss of our special pet of 17 years “Casey”. The sup-port we received assisted with the emotion and devas-

tation. We are thankful and blessed by our friends and St. Pat’s parishioners. Bob and Pam Brinkoetter

GREATER LAKE CHORALE SPRING CONCERTS

“Tuneful Memories”

It ranges from an Irving Berlin tune written in 1964 to a medley of rock tunes, titled “Back to the 50’s”. Between these bookends are two tunes from West Side Story that will bring back great memories. The 1952 hit of ” I Be-lieve” concludes the program.

Blended into this entertaining mixture of “oldies” is a composition from a talented young composer, Hans Bridger Heruth, who is currently attending the Universi-ty of Missouri. The audience will appreciate “Joy”, and the lyrics provided by a poem written by Sara Teasdale (1884-1933).

OFFERTORY GIFT BEARER

It is an honor to be an Offertory Gift Bearer. If you are interested, please let the Director of Worship know when you arrive at Mass.

Three people are needed to carry the bread, the wine, and the offertory collection. If you have a special event and would like you or

your family to be Gift Bearers, please call the Parish Office.

Each of the ministries you are involved with is important to the vitality, prayerfulness and beauty of our liturgical

celebrations. We are always looking for dedicated people to fill these roles. Think about, pray over, consider the

ministry that is calling you.
