I received a degree from the “John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family” which he had founded in Rome in 1981. Blessed John XXIII is also being canonized today in Rome. “Good Pope John” was elected pope at age 77 and died four years later in 1963 (I was only 2 years old!). Throughout his life he was a man of fatherly love. During World War I, he served as a medic and chaplain in the Italian army. He helped save Jews from the Nazis during World War II. He was a strong vigorous pope who initiated the revision of the Code of Canon Law and convoked the Second Vatican Council II to renew the Church. Cardinal Angelo Comastri explained that “While Pope John XXIII was dying, something similar took place to what happened when Pope John Paul II died. The world appeared to be reconciled around the the bed of the dying Pope. Jews, Buddhists, even jail inmates, all communicated their sentiments to the Secretary of State, because Pope John XXIII was felt to be the father of the world, the father of humanity, the father who had helped men to feel more like brothers.” At the Canonization Mass in Rome today, four great popes will be present: two on earth and two in heaven! Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will canonize Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II. We thank God for entrusting the modern church to such capable stewards! The words of St. Paul have been fulfilled in the lives of each of these fatherly and saintly men: “Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Now it is of course required of stewards that they be found trustworthy….” (1Cor. 4:1)

From the Pastor’s Laptop Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today I feel like my father is being made a saint! Pope John Paul II became pope when I was 18 years old, and he continued as our “Holy Father” until I had been a priest for 17 years. I am a priest of the “JPII Generation.” His example inspired me to aspire to the holy priesthood, to consecrate myself totally to Christ through Mary, and to focus my studies on the church’s teachings on marriage. I received a degree from the “John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family” which he had founded in Rome in 1981. I am inspired by his writings, his heroism, his courage and the reported cures and other miracles attributed to his intercession both during his life and after his death.
Jews, Buddhists, even jail inmates, all communicated their sentiments to the Secretary of State, because Pope John XXIII was felt to be the father of the world, the father of humanity, the father who had helped men to feel more like brothers.”
At the Canonization Mass in Rome today, four great popes will be present: two on earth and two in heaven! 4:1)

Bringing Families Together
Normally, this section of our bulletin profiles one steward at a time. This week we have one of those rare situations when it is almost impossible to determine how to separate these two married stewards. They each support one another, are always a team, and together, model the best way to “steward” a marriage. Mike is currently our Knights of Columbus Grand Knight and Nickie serves in Militia Immaculata Leadership. She spent hours last year on our Hall floor, meticulously creating the system that would eventually count over 48,000 cans of food for our Guinness Record attempt. She has served at hospitality countless times; and both have served on the Stewardship Committee. Together, they teach classes, work behind the scenes and never...seek recognition. This is a hard road to walk, humbling oneself, being obedient to our Lord , all the while being a neighbor and helping hand to those in need. If you have been struggling with wondering how you can take the next small step in becoming a better steward of your gifts, please stop and talk to Mike and Nickie. They can help you find the “smile of service” they so easily share.

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH - PREVENTING CHILD ABUSE IS EVERYONE’S
RESPONSIBILITY The Internet has become the new schoolyard for child molesters seeking girls or boys to victimize. Internet “chat rooms” provide a teenager with an opportunity to engage in a “live” conversation with friends from school or church, or with other teenagers from around the world. Law enforcement has found that child molesters use chat rooms to gain easy and safe access to teens. Because of the seemingly caring and seductive talent of child molesters, teenagers should be warned that when they are in a chat room, they should never provide anyone with private information, personal information, and especially their specific physical location. It is every adult’s moral responsibility to protect possible victims by reporting suspected abuse or neglect to the responsible authorities. For information on how to report suspected abuse, contact your local parish safe environment coordinator or Linda Dillen, Manager & Diocesan Safe Environment Training Coordinator, Diocese of Stockton, (209) 466-0636.

Página 8 - St. Joseph’s Modesto
Bienvenido a St. Joseph’s
