Our parents, staff and students have shown their spirit by supporting many activities and events throughout March. Our newsletter will be filled with many images of fun, laughter and school spirit. Hike for Hunger
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Holiday Assembly Page 2 McKee McNews April 2016
We are all very excited to have our annual school musical at the end of April. This year, our show is called "On The Radio".
How dull would our lives be without music, singing, and dancing! This energetic production imagines a radio station (MCKE) that plays hits from different decades of the twentieth century. From popular World War One songs like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", to the iconic dance number "Footloose", the audience will be treated to a variety of favorites that will get them singing along in their seats!
There will be two evening performances, one on Tuesday April 26
th and the other on Wednesday
April 27th beginning at 7:00 p.m. Please see the
schedule or ask your teacher to find out when your child will be performing. There is no cost for admis-sion, but we will be raffling off a VIP seating prior to the start of the show. We certainly hope to see all of you there.
Hike for Hunger is an initiative of children help-ing children. Hike for Hunger aims to raise awareness of the ever-present problem of hun-ger and food security for families and children within our community.
Food Drive:
The goal is to collect much needed, non-perishable food items for the Lansing United Church Food Bank between March 25th and April 20th. Look for the Hike for Hunger bin at our school entrance and/or send in items with your child to their classrooms. We have filled ONE box already! Help us fill box #2.
Event:
Please register and join us on Saturday, April 30th, 2016 at 4 Forest Laneway at 9am for the
community hike. Please send in your registra-tion forms in with your children. Extra Regis-
tration Forms & Flyers are available in our school office.

We are continuing the tradition of producing a McKee PS
Yearbook. This year, we will be filling our pages with won-
derful school memories of special events taking place
during the 2015-2016 school year. The yearbook will be
in full colour with a glossy cover to be distributed at the
end of June. Be sure your child has this special keepsake
to help them remember the memories, fun and friends of
this school year. Last year we sold all of our copies and
had some disappointed students who did not order in ad-
vance. The cost of the yearbook is $25.00 per book. Pay-
ment by cheque to be made out to McKee PS is the pre-
ferred payment method. Please see the email sent April
1st for the order form. If you are interested, please print
and complete this form and submit it to your child’s teach-
er with payment by April 28, 2016.
International Day of Pink — Wednesday, April 13, 2016
The International Day of Pink is a day of action, born when a youth in a high school in Cambridge, Nova Scotia was bullied because he wore a pink shirt to school. His fellow students decided to stand up to bul-lying; hundreds of students came to school wearing pink to show support for diversity.
We invite everyone to make a difference and participate. The goal of the International Day of Pink is to bring this message across the world, through an international day of action that anyone can take part in. We encourage groups to not only wear pink in support of diversity, but to also hold events and activities that will engage their community and challenge gender stereotypes.
The International Day of Pink is more than just a symbol of a shared belief in celebrating diversity - it's also a commitment to being open minded, to being understanding of differences and to being respectful of each other.
During the afternoon of Thursday, March 31, we
presented our Honesty Bee certificates to our
grade 1, 3 and 5 students. We also celebrated the
successes of our fundraising Dance-a-thon. Please
see the following pages for the details. Throughout
the month of April, we will be focusing our attention
on the character trait of Cooperation.
A Message from McKee McKids Enrichment Centre
McKee McKids has a limited number of spaces available for September 2016 in their Nursery and Preschool Programs for children who are 3 years of age and toilet trained.
McKee McKids' Nursery Program runs in the mornings from 8:45am-11:15am.
McKee McKids' Preschool Program runs from 7:15am-6:00pm.
If you know anyone living in the McKee Public School district who would be interested in enrolling their child, please ask them to call 416-222-1414 and speak with Heather or Aki for more information or they can email at [email protected] Thank you.
Collected for 2016 … $15 388.00 before expenses… Hurray! We reached our goal and exceeded it! The McKee spirit lives on. All the sponsors, students and family have generously contributed to make this year’s fundraiser one of the best ever! We can now purchase more technology for the school!
Without the numerous parents who helped photocopy, set up the sponsor forms, sort the
early bird prizes and count the money, we would not have been as successful this year.
Thank you parents for your dedication and help. We would also like to extend a special
thank you to Mrs. Kim, who worked throughout the year to obtain all the sponsors for the
dance-a-thon. The teachers at McKee always work diligently behind the scenes to make
everything a success.
Finally, we have to thank the parents, students and families who made this Dance-a-thon a resounding success. Your contributions
will help make McKee a better place to learn.
