And speaking of green blades rising, we are celebrating the resurrection of the Son who gives light to the world. The whole world, if only we’d look and listen—and act. For weeks I have been asking you to look inward and ponder the question: How is Christ resurrected in YOU, in your very own personal, day to day life? How is the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit manifested in YOUR life? And what have you come up with? Maybe the real question is: when others encounter you, do they experience Jesus? Whether you wear a cross or not, do others know you carry within you the very heart of God, who gives life and love so lavishly? Oh, I know we are not all sweetness and joy all of the time. It’s not an easy task to put aside our worldly wants and desires for wealth, health, prestige, recognition, being in the right, winning, and all the other things that would take us away from our focus on the Kingdom of God in the here and now and live out of the promises we have from God: promises of peace and love and joy and hope for the future, now and, well, in the future. In fact, it’s downright difficult in today’s world of wars, and rumors of war, of increasing financial distress for more and more of us (throughout the world). But that’s why we meet together regularly (weekly, at least) to be resurrected, restored and renewed to new life so that we can be fed and strengthened and encouraged for our task as God’s people being God’s hands and heart wherever we find ourselves. Pastor’s Message
Yup, ALL times and ALL places. That’s our job as we live out our faith/belief that God is present, today; for us, with us, in us, and that God acts through us to bring in the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.
And so we come to worship, we participate in that worship by standing up and sitting down, singing, responding in prayer, hearing the Good News, accepting the invitation to come to the foretaste of the feast to come and holding out our hands to receive the presence of Christ in, with and under the bread and wine given for all people.
In worship we confess and profess with words. But not words only. In worship we receive blessing and hope, but we also give. Yes, worship is about giving, too. We give our hearts and minds, we give our talents/gifts (don’t know what your gifts/talents are? Don’t worry, we can figure that out!). And we give our money to further the work of the Church in this community and beyond.
I don’t often talk about money, since money and I have a very fleeting relationship, but financial giving is also a part of our worship. And in today’s world it’s very hard to give away even a small part of what we have to live on. It takes a bit of a leap of faith to place our offering in the offering plate. (That’s why I use the automatic giving program. My offering is taken out all at once right after payday. I must do it this way because I know that I would just spend that money on something else. I might spend it responsibly—for heat or electricity or food. I might give to FISH or Helping Hands, but that needs to be in addition to what I give to the Church for its work in this community and around the world.)
Anyway, I’m issuing a challenge to all of you: 1. Determine that you will be even more intentional about coming to worship (it’s empowering to meet with God’s people regularly). 2. With me make a commitment to increase your regular financial giving to the work of Faith Lutheran Church by 1%.
$1.00 + 1%= $1.01. $10.00 + 1%=$11.00. And so on.
I think it’s wonderful that Palm Sunday falls on April Fool’s Day. What a kick! As of April Fool’s Days I will put my foolish mouth where my money is and up my giving by 1%. How about you? Let’s be fools for Jesus every day.
And, let’s celebrate Easter Sunday (April 8) with renewed commitment to actually live out the new life each of us has been given. Come, see, experience our God in action. Invite someone to come to worship (tell them the music will be wonderful!), participate in the life of Faith Lutheran in ways you haven’t before. Make Jesus a more central part of your life. Be intentional about your faith walk. Make it a priority.
Well, I’m the Pastor, it’s my job to encourage you to learn about this Jesus, to experience his love and to pass it on. It’s your duty and delight to take this walk of faith seriously and openly. That’s what we do as God’s people.
So, People, you can start right now. As I write this it’s not quite Easter yet, but we can anticipate the opening of the tomb by practicing the Alleluias we haven’t said since Ash Wednesday, and determining to follow as we are led by the Holy Spirit in all we do.
Praise the Lord! HALLELUJAH! (I don’t care how you spell it.) Thank you, Jesus. Really—THANK you, Jesus!
See you in church.
Your sister in Christ Jesus,
Pr Dawn

Doorpost – The image of a doorframe marked with blood comes from the Old Testament Passover account, when the Issraelites prepared to flee slavery in Egypt. God directed them to slaughter lambs for a final meal and paint their doorposts with the blood. God sent the Angel of Death to kill the firstborn sons of Egypt, but the blood on the Israelites’ doorposts served as a signal that the Destroyer should “pass over” those homes. Likewise, the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, saves us from eternal death.

A Circle of Friends began meeting last month and will continue to meet on the second and fourth Monday from 1 to 5 in the afternoon. All are invited to join the Circle. Invite a friend or come alone—either way you are welcome. Tea and coffee will be available.
This is something new! It is an opportunity for those who wish to come together for a few minutes or a few hours to work on a project, visit, have coffee or tea or do whatever it is you would like to do. Just bring along your project and enjoy the fellowship. If you have a project you want help with, please contact Peggy Preston at 541-926-2697 ([email protected]) so arrangements may be made to have needed materials available or to be sure someone knows how to provide the help will be there. There is also the chance that we may be learning together and that is okay too but it helps to know in advance so we can have the needed information available.
Several have requested an opportunity to just get together and spend time together. We will try this out for a while and see what grows from it. Suggestions on what can be done during this time so far are as follows:
• Learn a new skill such as knitting, or crocheting.
• Work on a bead project.
• Work on a project for this year’s Bazaar.
• Paint a picture while listening and visiting with others.
• Make a prayer shawl (will take more than one session).
• Work on a project that has been waiting to get done.
• Just come and see what is going on.
• Make a batch of cookies or try a new recipe.
There will be a sign up sheet available but even if you are not signed up it is okay to drop in.
You have seen the colored pictures of chicks Judy McPhail has decorated the church with. We have collected $50 + in the offering to use to give chicks to poor families. With the chicks the families will be able to be healthier from the eggs they will get when the chicks grow up. These families may even be able to sell the eggs to increase their income. The program is called “a buck a chick”. You, members of the congregation, can help by contributing money but also by coloring a “buck a chick” poster. We are excited to see how many we will be able to give by Easter. Just pick up the sheet and some of the crayons and color away.
We are learning some new songs. Pastor Dawn is teaching us to sing Psalm 19:14, “Create in me a clean heart…” Another song we are learning is the books of the Bible song. Maybe you learned this song as a child. Come, join us at 9am Sunday morning. You can help us learn the songs while we make a joyful noise unto the Lord!

from the Preschool Desk
We have had such a good year so far here at the preschool. Our enrollment continues to grow and we are full now on Wednesdays.
Last month we covered topics like healthy eating, physical fitness and homes. And we had a fire inspection and passed.
Tara went to a 2-day conference in Seaside about bringing nature to children. We will be bringing in some more natural elements into our playground and into our classroom. In these classes Tara learned that American children spend 27% of their day with electronic media, and only about 1% outside on average. Children should be getting 2 hours a day of unstructured outside play. The staff here at Li’l Sprouts have decided to take this to heart and are taking action. We have made a new slogan: rain or
shine we go outside. We are trying to be out for at least 45 minutes in the morning and in the afternoon. We would gladly take any used rain coats and rain boots for children to keep on hand for those mud filled days.
The preschool would also love to take any stumps or logs off your hands. And we are also looking for willow to make willow tunnels and forts. For more information about nature play you can visit www.greenheartsinc.org. If you have any ideas to bring nature into our preschool feel free to email or talk to Tara. We would love to have some feedback.
Thank you all and God Bless!
