MPRF Cash Calendar update Our Glasgow Rodeo Club takes great pride each year in selling the Montana Pro Rodeo cash calendars, meaning weve always got some winners up here in our corner. In January, Angie Stanley (Glasgow), Tyler Hillman (Hinsdale) and Jeff Roberton (Opheim) each won $30. In February, Renee Jennings (Glasgow) made the Saturday hit for $100... just so happened to be Valentines Day. Josh Dedobbeleer (Glasgow) has his calendar paid for, hitting for $30. And Glasgows Richard Olsen popped the February finale for $500. March had Garrett Collins (Glasgow) hitting for $30 and that was it. Hopefully things will heat back up for the month of April. Whats cool about these calendars is that a good portion of the proceeds from sales by the Glasgow Rodeo Club stays local, so for those who purchase them, thanks for supporting the Glasgow Rodeo Club!

On Voices of Montana Listening to Aaron Flints Voices of Montana this morning, a guy named Mike from Missoula calls up, talking about a story and photo in the Missoulian of a mountain lion caught in a trap and loses its foot (which he said with the kind of trap that was used there was no way this could happen). Mike then says, Theres only one animal that will lose a foot in a trap, and thats a North Dakota Coyote-ey. Hell chew three feet off before he realizes to chew off the one thats caught in the trap. With a chuckle, Aarons response goes something like, Yeah, thats a good one, but we cant really be picking on the North Dakotans with the economy they have going on over there...

  • Letter to the Buzz I seriously dont know where to begin. I am seeing a lot of what is being worn and what is being said by the 4-6th graders at the Eastside school. Holy cow!!!! They may as well wear pajamas. Is there absolutely no dress code now in the Glasgow School system?? While our granddaughter lived in Fort Worth, Texas and was enrolled in school there, all the kids wore polo shirts, with collars, and Khaki pants or shorts. It was very strict, but you know what? They looked great. They looked clean and happy. They seemed to be very respectful children (from what I witnessed). And believe it or not, it was so much easier in the mornings to decide what to wear. The girls could wear leggins under skirts or if their skirt was long enough, they didnt need to. It really wasnt as bad as we thought it was going to be. Im almost ready to go to the school board and see if maybe some sort of dress code should be put back in place. I watched as five kids got on the bus this morning; two boys had wind pants on, another boy had jeans on, one girl with leggings and another girl with sweats. I seriously have seen girls coming out of the East Side School with, what looked like, PAJAMAS! Now, I understand that 4th-6th grade kids arent even thinking about getting a job anytime soon, but

Common sense is out the window

what about 7th-12th grade? These kids need to learn how to dress appropriately for when/if they find a job. Isnt going to school supposed to be preparing them for the real world? I might be a mean old Gramma, but I am NOT going to let my Granddaughter go to school looking like a slob. If they dress sloppy, they feel sloppy. So why should their disposition be any different than how they feel? Follow my gist? Language is another matter. Holy cow! I never even knew these words the kids are using now in 4th-6th grade! Elle tells me the kindergartners and 1st graders say the F bomb all the time! What in the world is up with that?!!!!! I didnt hear that word until I was in 7th grade and no, I did not live underground! My parents were very strict about cussing. I NEVER, in my dads entire life (70 years), heard him use the f bomb! I have NEVER to this day heard my Mom say it or have I ever said it in front of her. We NEVER said it in front of our parents or our children and they dont say it in front of us, still. I do believe this is what you call RESPECT. Ive always said, Theres a time and a place for cussingand it is NOT in front of children or our elders! THEN WHY IS IT ALLOWED IN OUR SCHOOLS? Respect and common sense are out the window and it seems no one even cares. It just makes me sick to think what my Great Grandchildren are going to endure!!! Makes me sad to even think about it. Makes me sad to think that parents today (not all) have no respect for their children BUT they demand respect from their kids. Messed up isnt it? Cmon people.lets respect our children. Maybe theyll respect you/us. Its really very simple. Just THINK before you speak. Lets help these kids feel good about themselves and proud of who they are. Maybe Im dreaming, I dont know. ~ Donna Dascher

    FRIDAY

A noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Nancy Pelosi happened to appear. Nancy took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease. Would you mind telling me, Doctor, she asked, how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal? Nothing is easier, he replied. You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If the person hesitates, that puts you on the track. What sort of question? asked Nancy. Well, you might ask, Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one? Nancy thought a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, You wouldnt happen to have another example would you? I must confess I dont know much about history.

  • All your elder agricultural folks would know what a Johnny Popper is. For those of us who dont, here is why theyre called Johnny Poppers: According to retiredtractors.com, all of the John Deere two-cylinder tractors from the original Model D in 1924, to the last series in 1958/1960 were called Johnny Poppers or Poppin Johnnies because of their distinctive exhaust note. During the course of two revolutions (a four-stroke cycle) of the engine (720 degrees) the first cylinder fires at 0 degrees, the second at 180 degrees, then the engine coasts 540 degrees until it fires again beginning the next cycle. But why wouldnt it be better to have one cylinder fire each 360 degrees and even out the power strokes?

Because that would necessitate having the crankshaft throws for BOTH pistons on the SAME side of the crankshaft at the same time. This means the weight of BOTH pistons would always be shifting back and forth together, much the same as the weight of a single large piston does, in a one-lunger. Just think about how one of THOSE babies shakes when it fires!! The alternating pistons on a Poppin Johnny allow it to run MUCH more smoothly!!So...... What Model is a Johnny Popper? The Models D, GP, A, B, G, H, L, LA, M, and R. The 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80; the 320, 420, 520, 620, 720, and 820; and the last series, the 330, 430, 530, 630, 730, and 830.
