I remembered all of the times that I went to Cardinals games with my Dad and my friends during my childhood and youth. I could almost taste the Krispy Kreme doughnuts that Dad and I would buy hot and fresh on the way home from the games. Sure, I am glad my team/city won, but it was nice to remember home. The time has come for me to take another study leave. Every five years of ministry I am granted a time to get away for sabbatical and study. Many of you will remember that it was five years ago when our family traveled through Europe on such a study leave. This summer I plan to take another study leave. There are no major travel plans. Instead, I will be going through home again. Time will be spent in Birmingham and Louisville. My goal is to begin a writing project that is a reflection on my spiritual home and those who have shaped my faith. Samford University and Southern Seminary will provide resources for research and writing. The study leave will run from late June to mid-August. We have excellent preachers scheduled to preach during my absence. (That information will come in another article as we get closer to the time.) I am looking forward to these days of rest, renewal, and study. It is good to go through home again, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have some weeks when I can make this spiritual journey.
