Also known as SBAT
You are known as Apprentice You are known as the Trainee
Apprenticeships combine paid workand structured training. They allow you to learn a trade and receive a nationally accredited qualification.
What is it?
How long?
How often?
Apprenticeships are normally 3-4 years.
Usually you work 4 days on the joband attend TAFE 1 day a week.You still get paid while studying atTAFE.
Trainees enter into a contract with an employer to gain hands-on-skills and work experience while earning a wage.Traineeships are mostly in non-trade related areas.

Most Traineeships last 1-2 years.
Traineeships can also be a great stepping stone to advance your career into Management roles or even a Diploma at TAFE or University.
How long?
SBAT allow senior high school students to commence an apprenticeship/traineeship while at school. While studying for theirHSC/VCE, SBAT work part-time and undertake formal training as part of their apprenticeship/traineeship which then goes towards their HSC/VCE studies.

SBATs are usually completed over a 2-3 year term, depending on the certificate and which state you are in.
You are on the job 1 day a week with the option to do more hours during weekends,
evenings and school holidays.
