Computer Based Test NUST Campus Sector H-12, Islamabad Paper Based Test Karachi, Quetta and Multan

Candidates will have an option to appear either in computer based test at Islamabad or the paper based test at Karachi, Quetta and Multan General Awareness portion covering Pakistan Studies, International Affairs and General Knowledge having 5% weighting has been added in NET. Candidates will have an option to change their preferences after the announcement of results within the given time frame.

Eligibility Criteria FSc (Pre-Medical Group) from any Board of Intermediate

and Secondary Education or an equivalent qualification like Overseas High School Certificate/British General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level)/International Baccalaureate/Advanced Placement with Biology, Chemistry and Physics as approved by PM&DC. Any other combination will not be accepted. All non-FSc stream candidates to obtain equivalence certificates from Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Pakistan to apply for the programmes. Minimum 60% aggregate marks each in Matric or equivalent (Science Group) and FSc or equivalent exams (Pre-Medical Group). No deviation in this regard is allowed. Marital status for AM College: Unmarried

Following candidates will be considered ineligible: Having less than 60% marks in Matric and FSc Failed/not appeared in any subject in FSc Part-I/Part-II Having less than 60% marks in equivalence certificate issued by IBCC Not in possession of valid O level or equivalent qualification, equivalence certificate issued by IBCC, at the time of applying to NUST.

Change/Confirmation of choices of Programmes

e-mail address. Candidate will be allotted a password to access the online application form. Upload recent photograph (with plain background). Candidates can apply for admission to all undergraduate programmes on the basis of NUST Entrance Test or SAT Score or both, according to eligibility criteria. Candidates applying on SAT basis have to enter their SAT Subject Test scores at link available on My Account page after submission of application form. Those who do not enter their SAT scores by 15 July 2012 will be assigned zero weighting. Candidates can deposit the fee either through credit card or make deposit, at any branch of HBL or Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Ltd., after taking printout of the Challan Form. Candidates of Islamabad centre will have to choose Test Date and Session out of the available options. Allocation of Test Date and Session will be made on First Come First Served basis. Candidates of Islamabad centre will be allocated Roll Number, Test Centre, Test Session, Log-in ID and Password for Computer Based NUST Entrance Test (CBNET). For test centres of Karachi, Quetta and Multan, candidates will be informed through email regarding Admit Card containing exact time and centre for Entrance Test. Candidates are required to print their Admit Cards and bring the same to the Test Centre along with original CNIC or a document with Photo ID such as Passport, original Matric/FSc certificate, etc, bearing photograph. Candidates can change their preferences after the announcement of NUST Entrance Test results/merit positions during the given time. No application for change of preferences will be entertained thereafter. Closing merit of session 2011 for different programmes will be available on the website for guidance.

NUST Entrance Test (NET)NUST Entrance Test will be Computer-based for the candidates of Islamabad centre, conducted in two sessions daily on different dates whereas for the candidates of Karachi, Multan and Quetta centres, it will be paper based to be conducted on one day for all the candidates. The standard of test will be that of intermediate level education, aimed at evaluation of factual knowledge, comprehension and its application. Instructions to attempt computer based entrance test along with mock test module is available on NUST website for guidance of candidates. For paper based entrance test, correct filling of answer sheets is essential. Detailed instructions for the same are given in the NET section to help the candidates. Entrance Test for Medical and Applied Biosciences Programme will be held in the following subjects along with their weighting: Biology Chemistry Physics English General Awareness* 40% 30% 15% 10% 05%

Note The above policy may be reviewed by the University whenever deemed necessary. It is the responsibility of the candidate to provide his/ her academic record in time to the University, as per the deadline. NUST will not be responsible if result of FSc/equivalent exam is not declared in time.

SAT Seats for National StudentsNUST has a few reserved seats in Medical and Biosciences programmes for induction through SAT scores to facilitate admissions of candidates from O/A Level background. Pakistani candidates of both O/A Level and FSc streams can exercise this option and compete for SAT seats by taking SAT subject test and submitting the following results.

* General awareness questions will pertain to basic level knowledge about Pakistan Studies, International/Regional Affairs and General Knowledge expected of an intermediate/ equivalent level student.

SAT Subject Test is a computer-based test held under the management of College Board, USA. For more information on SAT and how to apply, please visit their website at www.collegeboard.com Last date for SAT scores to reach NUST is July 15, 2012. Scores received after the deadline will not be entertained. NUST institutional code to receive SAT scores is 2790. Merit list for candidates applying on the basis of SAT for national seats is prepared separately.

Re-checking of NET PapersRe-checking of Entrance Test papers may be requested on the prescribed form available on the website, within 15 days of the declaration of result along with a fee of Rs 500/- in the form of a bank draft/pay order in favour of NUST. Re-checking involves the verification of paper for any unmarked answers and error free totaling of marks.

Provision of Entrance Test ResultsDesirous candidates may obtain the result details of their test from the link available on NUST website.

Medical FitnessSelected candidates will be required to provide Medical Certificate for joining the relevant programme. Medical Certificate Form will be emailed/sent to the selected candidates along with the Provisional Selection Letter for endorsement from any government hospital or a registered medical practitioner.

Rejection of ApplicationThe University may reject any application for admission without assigning any reason.

Submission of DocumentsCandidates are required to print the Provisional Selection Letters and send attested photocopies of the following documents along with paid Challan Form (NUST copy) of admission dues to UG Section, Registrar Directorate, NUST, H-12, Islamabad: Matric/equivalent certificate along with Detailed Marks Certificate FSc/equivalent certificate along with Detailed Marks Certificate Equivalence certificate(s) from IBCC in case of equivalent examinations

Candidates are also required to confirm whether they want to stay in the Programme allotted or would like to remain in up-gradation process. The seats becoming available as a result of dropouts will be re-allocated and filled through upgradation of candidates who have confirmed their willingness by depositing the admission dues in time. Names of those candidates who do not deposit admission dues will not be considered any further.

Cancellation of AdmissionAdmission is liable to be cancelled if the candidate is found guilty of suppression or misrepresentation of material facts at any stage. The University can further debar him/her from seeking admission elsewhere. Other universities in the country will also be informed about the same. The seats of those candidates who, after submission of admission dues, do not join within 15 days of commencement date of programmes will be declared vacant and filled up by candidates next on merit.

Allocation of ProgrammesSelection and allotment of programmes will be carried out strictly according to the merit position and preferences exercised by the candidates. Candidates will be provided an opportunity to change their preferences given earlier in the online application form after the announcement of NUST entrance test results/merit

positions. For Medical candidates this option will be available in first week of October 2012. No application for change of preferences will be entertained after this.

Postgraduate Programme (PGP) Directorate, National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) Sector H-12, Islamabad Note: Candidates who are awaiting final result can also apply for postgraduate admission provided their CGPA/Percentage till last semester is equal to 2.0/4.0 or 55% marks and they submit their final result before August 17, 2012.

(Anatomy, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Histopathology, Microbiology, Haematology, Chemical Pathology and Community Medicine) MBBS with minimum 55% marks in aggregate from an institute recognised by PM&DC and one year house job for basic Medical Sciences. MBBS/BDS with minimum 55% marks in aggregate from an institute recognised by PM&DC and one year house job for Community Medicine. MBBS/MSc/BS (4 years) in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology with at least CGPA 2.0 out of 4.00 (3.0 out of 5.0) or at least 55% marks for MPhil in Bio-chemistry & Molecular Biology. Percentage will only be valid if CGPA is not mentioned on transcript.

Programme Specific requirements Basic Medical Sciences

Science of Dental Materials BDS with minimum 55% marks in aggregate from an institute recognised by PM&DC and one year house job.

Masters Programme Eligibility CriteriaBachelors/Masters degree from an PM&DC/HEC recognised institution of Pakistan or abroad. MCAT conducted by AAMC with minimum 50 percentile score or GAT (General) conducted by NTS with at least 50 raw score. Only One 2nd Division/Grade C is allowed in academic career (Candidates from Balochistan or FATA are allowed two 2nd Divisions/Grade C). No 3rd Division/Grade D is allowed in academic career.

Molecular Medicine MBBS with at least 55% marks in aggregate from an institute recognised by PM&DC and one year house job, or MSc/BS (4 years) in Molecular Biology/Genetics/ Biochemistry with at least CGPA 2.0 out of 4.0 (3.0 out of 5.0) or 55% marks. Percentage will only be valid if CGPA is not mentioned on transcript

Applied Biosciences MSc in Life Sciences, BSc (4 years) in Agriculture/Chemical Engineering/Pharmacy/Life Sciences with CGPA 2.0 out of 4.00 (3.0 out of 5.0) or MBBS/BVM/BDS with at least 55% marks in aggregate. Percentage will only be valid if CGPA is not mentioned on transcript

Each candidate finally selected for admission to the direct PhD programme will be informed formally. Selection and Admission ProcedureAdmission of Masters students in various programmes of Medicine and Applied Biosciences will be based upon GAT (General) conducted by NTS/MCAT, previous academic record and interview conducted by the respective College/Centre. Admission in MPhil programme will be based on the following weighting:

Applied Biosciences MPhil in Bio-chemistry/Molecular Biology or FCPS (clinical subjects) with at least CGPA 3.0 out of 4.0 (3.75 out of 5.0) or 70% marks for PhD in Bio-chemistry & Molecular Biology. BDS and MSc/MPhil with minimum 70% marks in Dental Materials or FCPS in any discipline of Dentistry from an institute recognised by PMDC for PhD in Dental Materials. MPhil in Virology/Immunology or equivalent qualification with at least 3.0 out of 4.0 (3.75 out of 5.0) or 70% marks for PhD in Virology/Immunology.

Undergraduate ProgrammesNUST has some SAT specific seats in Medical and BS Applied Biosciences for international candidates. Desirous candidates can avail the facility accordingly, provided they meet the specified eligibility criteria and are willing to pay tuition fee and allied charges of the category.

Entry RequirementsMedical The following categories can only apply for international seats: Pakistani national students having passed an examination equivalent to intermediate level of Pakistan while being abroad, from a foreign education system. Foreigners and Pakistanis having dual nationality, irrespective of the place of their pre-medical study, Pakistan or abroad. Pakistani students studied abroad for pre-medical but appearing in the Pakistani board from abroad. Postgraduate ProgrammesApplying to NUSTInternational students, Pakistanis holding foreign nationality and Pakistanis living abroad can apply for postgraduate programmes. They have to compete with the local students for admission on merit.

Fact fileAtta-ur-Rehman School of Applied Biosciences places great emphasis on research. The focus on research and development is reflected in its impressive faculty profile. Despite being one of the youngest Centres of NUST, ASAB holds an impressive number of PhD faculty. It is currently being served by 16 internationally and nationally qualified PhD faculty members. Furthermore, its faculty and students have contributed as many as 79 research publications in a short span of time.

Eligibility CriteriaEligibility criteria is the same as for national students.

MCAT ScoreInternational applicants are required to appear for MCAT conducted by AAMC, USA. Last date for scores of MCAT to reach NUST is July 23, 2012. The candidates are responsible for providing MCAT score directly to NUST on the following address: Postgraduate Programme (PGP) Directorate, National University of Sciences and Technology Sector H-12, Islamabad, Pakistan. Minimum score required in MCAT is 50 percentile.

For continuation of the financial assistance in the range of 15 to 75% of the tuition fee, the student has to maintain 70% or more marks in subsequent professional exams.

Payment of Dues Tuition fee will be charged on six monthly/semester basis except the first semester fee which will be payable in two equal installments. Scholarships will be awarded to needy students of the new batch every year. The scholarship will be for full duration of the programme in which the student is enrolled.

Deferred PaymentsFinancially under-privileged students, who cannot pay their fees and do not qualify for merit-based scholarship are allowed deferred payment, on case-to-case basis on completion of 1st semester/academic year of their studies.

Refund PolicyThe University will refund only the security deposit if the student does not join the University. Admission Processing Fee is not refundable. Study period for 15 days or more will be counted as full month for charging tuition fee from students and for less than 15 days it will be 50%.

Some philanthropic organisations provide scholarships to the orphans and disabled studying at NUST. Such students will be informed on how to apply once they are selected. PhD Programmes NUST sponsored PhD students will be paid monthly stipend in addition to supervisor remuneration. There are numerous opportunities for additional academic pursuits, e.g. students will be provided financial support for attending seminars, conferences and making presentations/publication of research papers within Pakistan and abroad. During research phase of PhD studies at NUST, students can also get an opportunity for collaborative/joint research training programmes with other well-reputed foreign universities. Self-sponsored PhD students can also be exempted from payment of tuition fee, if they are willing to do Teaching Assistant (TA)/Research Assistant (RA) duties as and when required.

Bond for NUST Sponsored StudentsNUST sponsored MS/PhD students will be required to complete the programme. NUST sponsored MS/PhD Students will work as TA/RA, as and when required. The students who fail or do not fulfil the undertaking, will have to reimburse the total amount spent on them (including Tuition Fee, Stipend, Supervisors Fee and Research Expenditure, etc).

Tuition fee for first academic year (two semesters in case of Applied Biosciences) will be deposited at NUST at the time of admission. NUST Entrance Test The entrance test at Islamabad centre will be computer based as per the schedule announced by NUST. However, for centres of Karachi, Quetta and Multan it will be paper based and held in one session. Candidates will have an option to appear either in computer based test at Islamabad or the paper based test at Karachi, Quetta and Multan. The pattern and the standard of question papers for both types of tests will be the same. The computer based test is designed according to the on-line examinations practiced throughout the world. It is easy to attempt with minimal practice for which a demonstration module will be available on NUST website. All kinds of data carriers and calculators, including mobile phone, Bluetooth, hands free devices, etc, are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall.

A filled in answer sheet is printed on the next page for illustration and guidance.
