VA VA-DMME; This project specifically addresses 2400 underground mine maps that are situated within or near the proposed Coalfields Expressway Corridor project. The full intent of the project is to digital document these maps, geo-reference each map, and provide them to the public via the web (all Labor will be in house).
CO CO-Div of Minerals & Geology; The funding will be used to digitize and geo-reference underground mine maps for areas within the Boulder-Weld Coal Field.
The selected areas represent areas that are rapidly growing in terms of residential and commercial developments.
IN IN-GS; Supplement IGS/MSHA funding to locate, compile, and Scan historic coal mine maps that are held privately, as well as, in-house.
CO CO-Div of Minerals & Geology; The funding will be used to digitize and geo-reference underground mine maps for areas within the Boulder-Weld Coal Field.
The selected areas represent areas that are rapidly growing in terms of residential and commercial developments.
AL AL-GS; Continue development of an inventory and GIS database of underground coal mines in Alabama that was initially funded by MSHA.
Work to be completed by funding includes continued conversion of paper maps to raster images, database development, and interactive GIS development.
ND North Dakota Public Service; Continue development of a North Dakota Abandoned Mine Map and Information GIS Database.
Complete digital archiving of all ND coal mine maps (40 maps/2,000 text docs to be completed by contracted service)
KY Office of Mine Safety and Licensing; Project will fund continued efforts to scan and deploy maps currently on hand in hard copy for at the Office of Mine Safety and Licensing. Currently the balance of preserved maps are as follows: 5000 old maps, 500 hardbacks, 500-1500 privately owned maps, 600 mine license maps, 130,000 misc map documents. Specifically this funding will be used for the labor to process pre-law maps through 9/30/07.
WV West Virginia Office of Miner’s Health, Safety, and Training; This project will specifically address those mine maps that are located in the top five producing counties in WV. These five counties
have been targeted so that potential remaining reserves can be identified, as well as, a means to reduce the frequency of "Cut-Throughs" and the resulting potential loss of life do to these miscalculations.
PA PA-DEP; This project specifically addresses a group of maps within the 8,000+ that were given to the University of Pittsburgh by Consol
Energy, Inc. Approximately 600 Hardback (paper on top of linen) maps need protected.
NM NM-Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources; Continue cataloguing and scanning of New Mexico's coal mine maps and make them available to the public via a GIS format website.
IA IA-GS; Convert photographic copies of coal mine maps to digital images that will be geo-referenced, cataloged, and made available via the
internet.
MO MO-Division of Geology and Land Survey; Convert photographic copies of coal mine maps to digital images that will be geo-referenced, cataloged, and made available via the
internet.
AL AL-Surface Mining Commission; This project will enable AL to electronically scan the most recent underground mine maps for 41 permits. The maps will then be geo-
referenced and added to the agency's GIS image file system. These permits are located in a rapidly growing part of the state, as well as, underlying a new interstate.
