The process is time tested and a proven economical method for the removal of solids, oil, grease, and fibrous materials from wastewater streams, with removal rates as high as 99%. How does it work? Air flotation utilizes the injection and thorough mixture of small air bubbles into wastewater to enhance the buoyancy of certain contaminants. After reducing the influent water velocity, the air bubbles adhere or get trapped and the agglomeration floats to the surface of the main flotation chamber. A mechanical skimmer then effectively separates the contaminants into a collection chamber. This chamber has a steep pitch to direct the waste to an outlet for removal. Solids that are not floated and skimmed will settle to the bottom of the steeply inclined main flotation chamber. A helical flight auger then directs the settled solids to an outlet for removal. By determining your flow rates and characterizing the nature and concentration of the contaminants, EPS will determine, and if necessary customize, the most efficient air flotation system for your application. Typical sizing for our air flotation systems are in the range of 1 to 5 gpm per square foot of tank surface area. EPS utilizes best of breed technology to suit the discharge and budget requirements of our customer. Options include Dissolved or Dispersed Air Flotation (DAF) and Enhanced Air Flotation (EAF). Benefits of an Air Flotation System • Economical and efficient removal of liquid and solid contaminants, with removal rates as high as 99% for solids and between 60 and 99% reduction for fats, oils, and greases • Integrated chamber design reduces the overall footprint and cost • Lower sludge production when compared with adding polymer for conventional clarifiers • Options for tank construction from polypropylene or stainless steel, offering great chemical and temperature resistance.
