Evolution of the iPod

The evolution of the Apple iPod is a remarkable technical journey that

has left the world stunned. 2001 marked the birth of Apple’s first portable

music player, launched on October 23rd. This was considered a great

feat in comparison to the clunky portable CD players that were popular

at the time. From the iPod’s inception in 2001, the following changes

were made: • 2002: second generation iPod,

• 2003: a thinner and lighter third-generation iPod was released, • 2004: Apple introduces iPod Mini that is available in five colors, • 2005: iPod shuffle is introduced, • 2007: iPod shuffle becomes available in five colors; Apple creates iPod Touch with multi-touch interface and built-in Wi-Fi, • 2010: Apple introduces the new iPod Touch with Retina Display,

FaceTime video calling, HD video recording and Game Center.

The iPod Touch

The iPod Touch was introduced in September 2007, and was regarded as the

iPhone without the phone. The original iPod Touch was released without the

camera or Bluetooth, but the hardware was virtually identical to that of the

iPhone.

The iPod Touch used the same Operating System as the iPhone and ran

computer-based updates. The thin, compact size of the iPod Touch was because

of the lack of a cellular phone chipset which offered double the storage

capacity for a lower price.

Initially, the iPod Touch was available in two models that became overnight

sensations.

This year, Apple has released the new iPod Touch that is

valued at $199. As the cheapest version of the iPod, it comes with all of the luxuries!

The new 16GB model includes a 4-inch 1136 x 640 Retina

display, an Apple A5 processor, a 1.2-MP FaceTime front camera,

and a rear-facing 5-MP camera.

Touch retailed for $229, but it lacked the

popular rear camera and only came in one

In a variety of punchy colors that are suited

to the design of the product and spirit of

Apple. These colors are:

• Pink

• Yellow

• Blue

• Space Gray

• Silver

The new iPod Touch is also available in

‘Product Red’ – with sales from this color

going toward the fight against AIDS in Africa.

The new iPod comes with the following:

The design of these innovative earphones is defined by the geometry of the ear, which makes them more comfortable for more people than other ear bud-style headphones. What’s Up with the Red Color?

Don’t let the iPod labeled as ‘Product Red’ confuse you! Apple, along

initiative to raise money for the fight against HIV/AIDS.

with HIV and (RED)™ works with

companies like Apple to fight for

an AIDS-free generation by creating

(PRODUCT)RED merchandise. A
