When is software patentable?*

• Is the contribution technical? E.g.– Affects a process carried on outside the computer

– Operates at the level of architecture of the computer

– Results in the computer being made to work in a new way

– Software makes a computer a better computer

– Overcomes a perceived problem rather than side-stepping it
