APICAL : Polyimide FilmDESCRIPTIONAPICAL polyimide film possesses an excellent balance of physical, thermal, electrical and chemi-cal properties over a wide range of temperature (-269°C [-452°F] to 400°C [752°F]). More precise thickness control, superior web flatness, plus improved adhesion and excellent dimen-sional stability are standard features with Apical polyimide films. Applications for APICAL poly-imide film include flexible printed circuits (FPC),tape automated bonding (TAB), motor generator insulation, wire and cable insulation, bar code label and pressure sensitive tape. APICAL is produced by the polycondensation reaction between an aromatic dianhydride and an aromatic diamine.APICAL DIVISION KANEKA TEXAS CORPORATION PRODUCES THREE TYPES OF APICAL FILM.
APICAL AVAPICAL AV has been sucessfully used in appli-cations where a wide operating temperature (-269°C to 400°C) combined with excellent physical, electrical and chemical properties is
-ture is as follows.

APICAL AFAPICAL AF is a FEP fluoropolymer resin coated/laminated polyimide film developed for high temperature applications where heat sealabil-ity or improved moisture and chemical resistance is required. APICAL AF is available in a variety of constructions. (see Table 7)
APICAL NPAPICAL NP is developed by using state of the art technology designed specifically for applications where superior dimensional stability is essential. The superior dimensional stability characteristics of Apical NP make it particularly well suited for use in FPC and TAB applications.

TENSILE STRESS STRAIN CURVES OF
APICAL AV
The usual values of tensile strength, tensile
modulus, and ultimate elongation at various
temperatures appear in the typical stress strain
curves shown in Figure 1. Such properties as
tensile strength and modulus decrease at higher
temperature, while elongation reaches a maxi-
mum value at about 200°C (392°F).
Other factors, such as humidity and film thickness

THERMAL AGING OF APICAL AVThe life of APICAL polyimide film at high
temperature significantly depends on the environ-
ment. APICAL is degraded by oxygen. Its useful
life in nitrogen is at least an order of magnitude
greater than in air. The weight loss characteristics
of APICAL in air and nitrogen at elevated
temperatures are shown in Figure 5 and the
isothermal weight loss in air at several tempera-
tures is shown in Figure 6.
