ICLEI - LOCAL GOVERNMENTS FOR SUSTAINABILITY SUB-REGIONAL NODE FOR SOUTHEAST ASIA ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability is an association of over 1,200 local government Members who are committed to sustainable development. Its members come from 74 different countries. ICLEI dedicates to building and serving a worldwide movement of active and committed local governments to achieve tangible improvements in global sustainability with special focus on environmental conditions through cumulative local actions. As a movement, it develops and runs a broad range of campaigns and programs that address local sustainability while protecting global common goods and link local actions to internationally agreed goals and targets. Also, it provides technical consulting, training, information services to build capacity, share knowledge and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level. Its basic premise is that locally designed initiatives can provide an effective and cost-efficient way to achieve local, national, and global sustainability objectives. The Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) was estab- lished in October 2009. It is the first regional network established under the Global Adaptation Network (GAN). APAN aims to build climate resilience of vulnerable human systems, ecosystems and economies through mo- bilisation of knowledge and technologies to support adaptation capacity building, policy-setting, planning and best practices.
