 AP MUSIC THEORY SUMMER WORK  AP Music Theory is a fun, challenging, and rewarding class that incorporates many different aspects of music, including singing, listening, writing, and analyzing. To help you prepare for the upcoming school season it is important that you have a basic understanding of musical principles. We will start our class work with the assumption that you have a solid foundation. Every new concept builds on previous concepts, so it is absolutely essential that you begin the year on strong footing. It is also important to listen carefully to music – not just to “hear” it. Practice discerning listening during the summer months with music of your choice. Listening for structure of the music, harmonies, repetition of melodies, and instrumentations. There are websites to help you review the basics of music: The following packet is for you to complete by the first day of class and will count towards your first quarter grade.
