    Equipment Function

AP The access point (AP) provides access to the UMTS network. Itprovides the functions such as radio modulation anddemodulation, radio resource management, and power control.

AG The access gateway (AG) is located on the operator's Intranet. Itcontrols and manages APs and provides routes to other NEs.

AHR The AP home register (AHR), which is the home server of APs, isplaced on the operator's Intranet. It stores the location informationof UMTS APs, account information, and MS access control list.

AP Manager The AP Manager is the AP management system. It allows you to

manage APs in a centralized manner.

AAA The authorization, authentication, and accounting (AAA) server

authenticates the identity and authority of a user and records theuser's activities.

    Equipment Function

Clock server The clock server acts as a clock source and provides accurate

clock signals for APs. The clock server can be placed in a fixednetwork and connected to the DSLAM or the BAS. It can also be

    placed in a mobile network.

ePico UMTS enhanced pico base station, used for macro networkindoor blind spot coverage and traffic offloading.

    1.1.3 Benefits

    Benefits for the Operator

By using APs, the operator can obtain the following benefits:

The operator can effectively solve the problem about the indoor coverage of the

UMTS network, thus better fulfilling the users' requirements for 3G services.

The expenditure for installing and maintaining the uBro system is low. The uBrosystem supports automatic software upgrade and configuration, and automatic

network planning. Therefore, the uBro system can be rapidly and widelydeployed by the operator.

    Benefits for Terminal Users

By using APs, terminal users obtain the following benefits:

Terminal users can enjoy 3G network services of higher quality at a lower price athome because the uBro system does not occupy the radio access resources of theNodeB.

The UMTS AP supports user license management and access control. Thisprevents an AP from being used by an unauthorized UE. Thus, the expenditure onAPs is effectively reduced.

1.1.4 Introduction to the AP Manager

The AP Manager is a platform developed by Huawei to manage APs. On this platform, you can manage Aps easily in the uBro system.

The AP Manager provides the following functions:

    Configuration management

    Software management

    Fault management

    Task management

    Security management

    Log management

    1.2 Product Features

    Powerful Operation and Maintenance Functions

The AP Manager provides the following functions:

    Configuration management Software management

    Fault management

    Task management

    Security management

    Log management

The AP Manager allows you to configure APs and upgrade the AP software in batches.

You can also upload the log files and performance files of APs to the AP Manager.

Apart from the main functions, the AP Manager supports the following services:

    Multiple file servers

Daylight saving time (DST) and Network Time Protocol (NTP)

    License-based AP management

Configuring custom AP parameters in batches by importing files

Configuring AP zone parameters in batches by importing files

    Integrated Processing Platform

The AP Manager adopts the Advance Telecommunications Application Environment

(ATAE) hardware platform. The ATAE hardware platform, which is developed byHuawei, is a professional and highly integrated carrier-class platform with high

performance. Dedicated to telecommunication applications, the ATAE platformincorporates the carrier grade Linux (CGL) technology to implement the large capacity, high performance, high reliability, and high scalability.

Operation Interface Base on the Web

The AP Manage provides a web-based operation and maintenance interface that allows

you to perform centralized operation and maintenance on the AP. The interface is easyto be installed and operate.

    Reliable System

The AP Manager operates on the ATAE platform. The stable operation and highperformance of the ATAE platform ensures the high reliability of the AP Manager.

The system data of the AP Manager is stored on the database of the AP Manager server. The high security and the backup and restore mechanism of the database ensure thehigh reliability of the system data.

    Reliable Software

The AP Manager adopts the 3-layer Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE)

structure with Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) as the core. The stable and secure JAVA

platform ensures the reliability of the AP Manager software.

The AP Manager limits the number of login attempts. During a specific period, if thenumber of successive illegal login attempts of a user exceeds the maximum number of

login attempts, the AP Manager locks the user and records the login failure in the

security log. After a certain period, the AP Manager automatically unlocks the user.

The AP Manager provides the function of prompting you to confirm important or

    global operations.

If no operation is performed within a long period after you log in to the AP Manager,

the current user is forced out of the system.

    Standby serverblade

The redundancy server of the active server. When theresources on the active server are faulty, the resourcescan be switched over to the standby server bladethrough the VCS.

Provides high-availability storage space for the activeserver. When the active server is faulty, the VCS mountsthe disk array to the standby server. In the uBro solution,

the disk array is shared by the AHR, AP Manager,M2000, and AAA. The AP Managerserver and M2000server shares four disks on the disk array. These disksare made to a RAID 1 + 0 and identified by a logical unitnumber (LUN). In this case, the data stored on the diskarray is secure.
