1st Law of Thermodynamics

• Energy can be transferred and transformed, but it cannot be created or destroyed. – AKA: Principle of conservation of energy

– Energy is not created or destroyed only converted to different forms.

2nd Law of Thermodynamics

• Every energy transfer or transformation increases the entropy of the universe

• With every energy transfer or transformation some USEABLE energy is lost
