This weekend is our Nation’s Independence Day. On this 4th of July, we will gather with our family and friends to celebrate and be thankful to God who can bless America and help our country to truly be a country of liberty and justice for all—for all who are living and for the unborn. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. - Psalms 33: 12
A PRAYER FOR INDEPENDENCE DAYEternal God, stir our minds and stimulate our hearts with a high sense of patriotism on this Fourth of July. May all that this day symbolizes renew our faith in freedom,
our devotion to democracy, and redouble our efforts to keep a government of the people, by the people, and for the people truly alive in our world.
Grant that we may highly resolve on this great day to dedicate ourselves anew to the task of ushering in an era when good shall live in the hearts of a free people, justice shall be the light to guide their feet, and peace shall be the goal of humankind: to the glory of your holy name and
the good of our nation and of all mankind. Amen.

1, 2 | REST IN PEACE. Two longtime members of St. Cecilia passed from this earth. Please pray for the soul of Mary Clare Sweeney. Mary Clare was known for her wonderful smile and hearty laugh. Mary Clare, 89, is survived by her 8 children, 36 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Also pray for Larry Metz. Larry and his wife, Jean, always went to 8AM Mass. Larry, a very devout man, is survived by 6 children, 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. May both Mary Clare and Larry be taken to the angels in heaven.
3 | CONGRATULATIONS. On Saturday, June 20, there was a wedding at St. Cecilia. Please pray for and congratulate the newly married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Mary and Laura (Vandorpe) Fogarty.
4, 5 | MASS TIME CHANGES. St. Anthony will have a change to their Mass times. Their new Mass schedule will be 8AM and now 10:30AM. Also, during this time of social distancing, we have added an 11:30 AM Mass to the St. Cecilia Sunday schedule.
6 | YOUR CHURCH TAKES NO VACATION. The other day I was reminded about a promotional poster among my collection. The poster said: “Your church takes no vacation. Arrange for your weekly offering during your absence.” The poster obvious-ly was put up to remind people that while they were taking a vacation in the summer, the Church still needed their support during that time. So as a gentle reminder to those that can give during this time, do not forget your Church. If the impact of COVID-19 has left you in need of financial assistance, please let us know.

Becoming CatholicCurious about the Church? Want to learn more? Next inquiry session will be on July 22 at 7 PM in the St. Cecilia Commons.
Summer with the Saints Saint Rose of Lima was born in Peru, South America. She was very obedient to her parents. She did all tasks with a happy smile. She always tried
to do little things that were pleasing to others. Rose was very pretty. Her mother wanted her to wear beautiful clothes, but Rose would say, “Mother, only beauty of the soul is worthwhile.”
A rich young man wanted to marry Rose. He offered her a large home and many servants, but she refused. She wanted only to love and serve God.
When her parents had lost their money, Rose went out every day to work, and at night did sewing to help her parents. Rose visited the homes of the poor and brought them food. She offered all her sufferings and good works to God for sinners. Our Lord often appeared to her like a little child to tell her how pleased He was with her kind deeds.
Rose died in 1617 when she was only thirty-one years of age. She is the first saint of the Americas.
New Approach to Religious Education and Sacramental PreparationThis year our pastoral region will be embarking on a journey to embrace a new approach to religious education and faith formation for both children and parents. This new approach is titled Family of Faith. Family of Faith will be the ordinary means of religious education for ALL children and parents in each parish of our
Eastside Pastoral Region. It is a complete replacement for PREP (Parish Religious Education Program) and is the new avenue in which all children in the region, regardless of their parish or if they attend Catholic grade school or not, will prepare for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation
The philosophy of Family of Faith is rooted in the empowerment and equipping of parents to serve as the primary catechists of their children. This is completed by having one live Sunday session per month held at St. Cecilia Parish on the second Sunday of the month where the children are in the classrooms with a parish catechist, and the parents are with our parish leadership team. During the parent lesson, parents are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to share the Catholic faith with their families using the activities and lessons found in the parent guide. The goal is to ignite a flame of love for God in the domestic Church, the family.
THE DETAILS:• Session 1 on Sun., Sept. 13, 2020 from 11:45 AM-12:45 PM• Sessions on the second Sunday of each month from Sept.–May• We encourage everyone to go to the 10 AM Mass, followed by Donut Sunday
at 11:15 AM. Children and parents then split for their respected sessions from 11:45 AM-12:45 PM
• A parent guide is given to each family as well as a student activity book for each child
• We will have a Spanish track available for Spanish-speaking families• This program is 100% FREE
To register for Family of Faith, please go to our www.eastsidefaith.org/fof and fill out the online registration form. If your child is receiving a sacrament, you must provide a copy of their baptismal certificate.
