It’s Heart Health Go Red Month Great time to donate blood if you can! Greetings WSOSC Members! Well, here we are with one month down in the year 2013 already. Even with a week off of school and a few other days off here and there, I know I am ready for some serious R&R. As some of you may know, I went from working very part- time this school year to VERY full-time and then some so, needless to say, my life is a constant state of stress. This is why I am so excited about our February General Membership Meeting! We have a team of health educators from Naval Hospital Bremerton lined up to present stations which will educate us on: fitness, healthy eating and a relaxation station. Whether you are like me and need to learn how to slow down and relax or need a little boost with your New Year’s Resolution to get in shape and eat healthier, this is one meeting you don’t want to miss! As always, we encourage you to bring along a spouse who may be new to the area/your command. Hope to see you there! Warm regards, Stacey Tucker, WSOSC President

Lunch Club Coordinator
Amy Ott will be leaving us in March,
so we are looking for someone to
step into her shoes as Lunch Club
Coordinator. This is a great opportunity to get a little
1. Herbs and spices have a high level of antioxidants, which are proven immune boosters. Oregano in particular is mentioned because it has special antimicrobial
properties: oregano leaves are often used as a wrap for food to help prevent spoilage. 2. Peppers - Red bell peppers have twice the amount of vitamin C per gram as many of
the vitamin C-containing fruits. Despite some criticism of vitamin C’s cold fighting properties, it’s been proven to diminish the severity and duration of colds.
Hot peppers contain capsaicin - the compound responsible for making your nose run and clearing your sinuses.
3. Garlic - Crushed garlic contains a chemical called allicin - an antibiotic and decongestant. Unfortunately, this chemical is broken down during cooking, so for the best
results your garlic should be eaten raw or added to food right before serving. 4. Seafood - Once again it’s the antioxidants in seafood that help boost immune system
function. Omega 3 fatty acids are powerful flu fighters and anti-inflammatory. 5. Yogurt - Though you should never eat dairy during bouts of vomiting, yogurt
promotes healthy bacteria growth in your stomach. This is good news because over 70 percent of your body's immune function comes from the digestive tract.
6 . Chocolate - A dark chocolate with no less than 70 percent cocoa contains theobromine - a cough suppressant. In fact, two ounces of dark chocolate will deliver the same results as your typical dose of cough medicine!

1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
4 scallions ,coarsely chopped
Course salt and ground pepper
10 ounces fresh baby spinach
Nonstick cooking spray
8 (6 inch) corn tortillas
1 can (15.5 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
1 cup prepared salsa (medium or mild)
8 oz Pepper Jack cheese, grated (about 2 cups)
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In food processor, combine cilantro, scallions salt pepper and as
much spinach as will fit: pulse, adding the remaining spinach in batches, until coarsely chopped.
2. Coat 8 “ square baking dish with cooking spray. Lay 4 tortillas in the bottom,
overlapping slightly. Layer with half beans, salsa, spinach mixture and
cheese; repeat with remaining ingredients, ending with cheese and pressing
firmly.
3. Cover dish with foil; place on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake until bubbling, 25
to 30 minutes; remove foil and bake until golden, 15 to 20 minutes more.
4. Cool 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

Spread the word . . . Please spread the word to oth-er spouses about WSOSC. Feel free to forward information to new spouses or those that may not have heard of us yet. Our
most powerful marketing tool is our members! You just never know the con-nections that can be made on a hike or at a lunch. Sometimes it’s the spouse that you least expect that may need a hand – by connecting with each other socially, we build bonds and create opportunities to look out for each other and lend that helping hand when it’s needed. So, let’s not keep this club a secret – help us get the word out!
