Web: Katy Perry is the main focus of the website as her face in the background of the website, this is effective as she is her own brand, therefore she is automatically selling herself to the audience as there is no mistake that this is her website. The use of the hashtag is effective as people are now more interactive, and her target audience spends a lot of time on social media, therefore she is identify with her target audience, and creating a buzz. Her font is bold and in capital letters making it more informal, which fits in with the characteristics of her target audience. Her name is in the left top hand side, it acts as an label. In case you don’t know who she is. She is selling her album in every way on this website from a largely advertised single to her album. Which is named prism and in terms of her website layout she has triangle picture tabs that illustrate her album, by having this little reminders that are linked to her album she is (free) advertising her album.

Print: Katy Perry genre of music is ‘pop’, her album uses a lot of light bright colours such as greens and pinks and oranges, which is typical to her genre as you wouldn’t expect anything dark. From this over art you can tell that her target audience is teens to young adults as the theme is flowers and sunsets. The name of the album translate to the font she used for her name which has a subtle effect as she layers a picture on top of a picture, the first image of her, the background of this picture looks like the light that is reflected from a prism. As it bright and colourful but as you look further you realise that it is a sky so she links the two themes together. The colour that is used throughout the entire album cover is green, the use of this colour links everything together, along with the white font is creates a album cover that looks effortless.Another thing that re creates the idea of a prism is the sun in the background of the picture, by creating this blinding light on one side and a coloured sky on the other, it recreates the effect of a prism.

Pop Vid: Katy Perry website this is how we do is a single for her album, her videos are always focus more on narrative and creating a story. However she tries to make things more relevant. The ice cream cone in the shot is actually twerking, this links back to the whole Miley Cyrus twerking phenomenon. By adding this to her video no only is she showing that she is till relevant even though she is older, but she is showing awareness of her audience and what they might like/watch.The whole video scream pop as she has the animated foods that people like such as pizza and ice creams which also links back to her audience likes and dislikes. Typical to form she has a lot of costume changes and uses bright/colourful colours to attract her audience and keep their attention. Things are constantly changing not giving the audience the chance to be bored.

Print: Beyoncé is an established artist therefore she does not have to rely to much on advertising and marketing. She has to simply write her name on something and it will sell out. Even though she uses a dark background which is not typical to pop music, the use of pink font makes it seem more feminine and makes it stand out more. She has her name in all capitals which makes it more informal, Beyoncé appeals to a wide range of people and has a large target audience. By making her album cover so simple she isn’t directing her album to anyone specific. But to anyone who likes her music. Furthermore my having it in the centre she is showing that she is the centre of attention on the album and that she may have collaborations on the album but it her album and its all about her. Her albums looks simple yet not a budget product, as her name alone and the influence behind it makes it look more important.

Web: Her name is once again at the top in the centre, as she is the main focus of the website. Her website is more interactive and fan friendly an its picture that are interactive, so they either turn out to a video, links to a text/photo album. This is effective as she is her website, the countless pictures of herself not only is a form of advertisement it makes it is aimed at her fans. As she is known to be a private person, all these pictures and links that you might not ever see unless you access this websites makes her seem more real and makes her more accessible to her fans. All her picture have thought behind them, in addition to the layout the website screams professional and that the person that this website is about is an influential character.

Pop Vid: The whole of the video screams fun, she is appealing to her target audience straight away because she is at a theme park, and everyone one enjoys theme parks. She didn’t plan everything and there are some raw clips that is just her hanging out. This makes her relatable to her audience because she is doing something that everyone can do. Also by the film being less pre planned the video looks more natural and holds an different appeal to a Katy Perry video. Also in terms of her costume code she is wearing a base ball hat and a white vest that makes her look less put together and more real. This links to her brand she is known/ wants to be known as an influential person not just a performer. The use of this video makes her look less like an act. She used the progression of a journey as her main theme and you see her in the day and the movie progresses into the night, this is effective and at night the colours pop more and make the video seem more ‘pop’.

Print: This cover art is also simple but in a different way, Beyoncé cover art portrays her influence, Sam Smith cover portrays his style. His music are less of a production and is more about his voice. Stripping back the cover art and by just having him is like an extension to the way he sings. It also portrays the name of his album. Which is called the lonely hour, and he is alone on the cover. There is no fancy backgrounds or any other objects in the shot, its just him alone. Arguably you can say that this is a mid shot because you only see half of him. This is effective because it relates back to the album again. By him sitting it represents him sitting by himself, making him seem lonely as he literally by himself. The colour also plays into his website and the whole thing uses a lot of blacks and greys, these colours seems gloomy. The use of gloomy colours creates a negative feel which relates back to the name of his album. Therefore everything has been taken into consideration; costume code, colour scheme, action code, in terms of linking everything back to the thing they are selling ‘the lonely hour’.

Web:His website is quite simple I have noticed that the website tends to change to match the albums theme, therefore the website is another platform used to advertise the artist and their album. His is fairly new on the scene, which is reflected in his website as he doesn’t have much going on. This website doesn’t have much going on but its simplicity makes it easier to find information quickly. He uses the same font that is on his album cover, on his website this is effective as everything is consistent and follows. So the products all link together, he also injects colour into the website in other ways which is effective because it stands out more against the dark background. The use of the black background is effective and does portray his genre as it is quite masculine.

Pop Vid: He is one of those artists who focus more on the singing than the performance. In this insistence he is using well known actors in order to act out his song. As you see little snippets of him singing against a simple background. This is effective because the narrative is really strong but it also makes the audience crave the point at which they will get a glance of the artists. The use of popular actors also create a buzz around the song as its not just targeted at the people who like Sam Smiths songs it is also targeted at people who like the individuals acting in the song. This also shows that the whole video doesn’t need to be someone singing along to the music and having ‘blank’ spaces is as effectives as seeing someone singing.
