Organization Strategies

The Box Method

• Get four boxes, label the first box as give away, label the second box as toss, label the third box as storage or garage and label the fourth box as keep.

• Start with the giveaway and toss boxes by placing items in the boxes you are not using or do not want.

• The give away box can be given as a donation to charity, friends, and family or use the items for a yard sale.

• Discard the items in the toss box accordingly.

• Next put the items you plan to keep but would like to store in the storage box.

• Once the project is complete remove the box or item(s) to the storage or garage.

• Lastly, fill up and then sort through the items in your keep box.

• Decide where place each item.

• Once your keep box is empty remove all trash, clean the area and enjoy.

• Set up a regular management system that would allow you to stay organized, such as labeled totes and or labeled shoe boxes.

• Remember to properly discard items that have your personal information on it.

Finial Thoughts

In closing we all wish had more time, in reality we are all given 86,400 seconds per day, 1,440 minutes per day, and 24 hours in a one day and 168 hours per week. How this valuable time is spent depends on how well one prioritize the demands of life. Learning to gain control over your daily schedule instead of your schedule controlling you can help you maintain the daily demands of life. Planning task and assignments based on priority and applying effective time management strategies to your daily activities can lead to optimal mental health and wellness.
