St. Michael the Archangel Church’s Response to the Clergy Sexual Abuse Scandal
Our parish is engaging in a threefold response to the present scandal: pray, inform and act.We invite you to join us.
What is our mission? We seek fi rst to take everything to God and to listen in prayer to what He asks of us. While these prayers have many intentions, they center on the need for the healing of all survivors of sexual abuse, their families and also for the healing purifi cation of our Church. We keep our parishioners informed on the status of the scandal, the Church’s response and our parish eff orts to promote healing and justice. Our eff orts to openly communicate are also meant to encourage and strengthen transparency and accountability in our Church.
Action is the response of Jesus Christ in the face of any injustice which we are called to courageously imitate Rooted in prayer and with accurate information, we desire to be a part of the solution to the pandemic of
pedophilia. Our actions must be concrete and relevant in order to strengthen our protection of children and youth.
Pray:All are invited to join with the parish family for a monthly rosary, confessions, and Exposition/Adoration of
the Blessed Sacrament in reparation for this scourge in the Church. Together, we ask Mary, Queen of Heaven, to intercede for us. All are invited to join us in prayer on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Th e rosary and
confessions begin at 6pm in the chapel. Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will follow and conclude at 10pm with Benediction. You are free to come and go at any time as together, we pray for
reparation in our Church. As well, you are encouraged to bring the family. Th is will occur monthly. You are invited to pray a favorite devotion of Pope Francis—the Novena to Mary, Undoer of Knots. You may pray this devotion at home with your family, gather with neighbors and friends or join parishioners to ask Our Blessed
Mother to intercede for healing and guidance.
Inform: Keep parishioners informed of the status of the scandal by communicating via the bulletin, a page dedicated
to information and data in our website and through Facebook. Share information provided by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, especially from our Archbishop, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo.
Act: Enhance your website to facilitate ease of use and ability to locate quickly all information posted on the
scandal. Call the parish offi ce and share your email address with us so that the parish can send you “fl ocknote” messages and invitations pertaining hereto. Partner with local organizations such as Children’s Safe Harbor to
provide workshops on preventing sexual abuse, reporting sexual abuse, and fi nding help for survivors. Partner with local counseling agencies/services to provide “support groups” for
survivors of sexual abuse and their family members. Partner with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to ensure all parishioners in any public ministry take
CMG PROTECT (replaces VIRTUS) to increase awareness and understanding of the sexual abuse of minors and how to prevent predators from acting within our society and Church.
Provide contact information to report the sexual abuse of minors and where to get help including steps for reporting and to whom (CPS and the local police).

Th e Lenten Season begins on Ash Wednesday, March 6
During Lent, we are asked to devote ourselves to seeking the Lord in prayer and reading Scripture, to service by giving alms, and to sacrifi ce, self-control through fasting. Many know of the tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also
called to practice self-discipline and fast in other ways throughout the season. In addition, the giving of alms is one way to share God’s gift s, not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents. As St. John Chrysostom
reminds us: “Not to enable the poor to share in our goods is to steal from them and deprive them of life. Th e goods we possess are not ours, but theirs.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2446).
Remember that Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and abstinence.
MASS AND DISTRIBUTION OF ASHES WILL TAKE PLACE AT 6:30 AM, 8:15AM, 12:10PM, 5:30PM AND 7:00PM.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS WILL BE ON FRIDAYS DURING LENT AT 7PM IN THE CHURCH.
