March 2016 – Lusubilo and Tom Maggio “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,[a] as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith” (Romans 1:16-17). One of my favorite movies is Chariots of Fire. In one of the scenes, the actor portraying athlete and missionary Eric Liddell is giving a speech to a group of people after one of his races. He likens life to a race and states, “Where does the power come to run the race? It comes from within.” Whether this was a true statement from Mr. Liddell is a point of debate, but I am grateful that the power of God that calls Christians out of the slavery of sin to run the race faithfully comes not from within, but from God. This is the Gospel, the good news that God gave His only Son Jesus Christ, so that whoever would believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? Lusubilo and I have resolved to live in light of the Gospel and what God has done for us in saving us from our sin. We have resolved to live God fearing lives by the power of the Holy Spirit within us to the glory of God. We have resolved to love and obey the Lord and serve Him by making disciples and teaching them all that the Lord has commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). As we have started this new year and look forward to the celebration of our Lord’s Resurrection, we thank God for you and your continued prayer and financial support for our work with The Rafiki Foundation in Zambia. We bring you greetings again from Zambia from all of our children, staff, and friends. We are enjoying watching the children grow and watching the work of Rafiki in Zambia grow as well. The Lord has been bringing many new students to the RICE or Rafiki Institute of Classical Education. We are almost out of room in our original building and through the gracious donation of one of Rafiki’s friends we are preparing to start the construction of a new facility. RICE is a wonderful means of sharing the Gospel. The goal is to train young people to be teachers and to prepare them to start their own Christian classical schools throughout Zambia. The curriculum we provide these new teachers includes the Rafiki Bible Study so the new teachers can be equipped to effectively teach God’s truth. Rafiki’s goal is to enable and train men and women to start 1,000 Christian schools in Africa. Our Dean of RICE, Barbara Edwards, has shared that since the start of the program in Zambia almost a year ago at least five men and women have received Christ and come to know the Lord. God is truly using the teaching of His word at Rafiki to build His kingdom. When our Rafiki children enter second grade we have a tradition of presenting them with a Bible and encouraging them with the passage from 2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God Dear Friends in Christ,
